What you'll do

Explore rare and one-of-a-kind original artifacts that tell the story of the voices, pivotal moments and profound community organizing that defined the LGBTQ movement in American history. Begin with a private tour of Stonewall Library, with more than 28 thousand LGBTQ titles representing decades of cutting edge literature and art, and an impressive array of rare and signed works, such as a signed copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, now more than one hundred years old.

Continue with a virtual tour of the current exhibition at Stonewall Museum, where historic items and research are curated to inspire thought-provoking questions and parallels to today’s issues.

And for the finale, delve into an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Stonewall Archives, typically made available only to researchers by appointment. Take part in a lively discussion as we explore the underground magazines, activist letters, bar and club posters, buttons, photos, compelling t-shirts, and other items that signify the evolution of the LGBTQ movement. Read the first issue of the oldest LGBTQ newspaper in the United States – printed on only one page. Enjoy a presentation of items from our collection donated by celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres, Harvey Fierstein, Alan Cumming, Carson Kressley, and Rosie O’Donnell.

The virtual tour of the Stonewall National Museum and Archives has been absolutely amazing ! The tour was very interesting and well structured. Me and my friends booked this event in the occasion of a friend’s birthday and we could not have been happier ! During the virtual tour, we had the chance to see some of the best and rarest LGBTQ+ books, papers, and magazines ! We also had the opportunity to see some of the clothing and objects owned or worn by Rita Mae Brown and RuPaul ❤️ It was also a very informative and insightful session, where the host read some letters sent by a lover to his partner while he was in prison because of his sexual orientation. It was a very good experience which I would highly recommend !

Organized this tour as a virtual after work activity for my Pride Employee Resource Group, and we absolutely loved it. Such an interesting look at LGBTQ history, and the hosts were so knowledgeable and lovely. It was part history lesson, part storytelling, part let's look at really cool queer artifacts. HIGHLY recommend to anyone who's interested queer history and stories.

An fascinating and informative "behind-the-scenes" tour of one of the country's most important LGBTQ museums and archives. An excellent balance between interacting with objects and conversation with the participants. Highly recommended.
