Sunset History Walk

San Miguel de Cozumel, Mexico

Experience hosted by Catalina

  1. 2.5 hours
  2. Hosted in English, Spanish, and French

What you'll do

Dive in Cozumel’s ancestral history, connect with locals and enjoy the sunset by the waterfront.
For this experience we will meet at the Plaza of the Two Cultures located in front of the military base. This monument is a replica of a mayan temple surrounded by sculptures of ancient Mayans and Spanish explorers. On the side we can also take pictures of the airplanes used by the Mexican government during and after WWII. As we walk south heading downtown we will discover amazing corals petrified in limestone formations. We will also stop at the monument dedicated to the father of our race: Gonzalo Guerrero. You will be amazed by the history of his life and it’s consequences. Plus it’s one of the best places to take pictures of the sun setting behind a replica of the famous mayan arch. We will finish our experience surrounded by the lush gardens of Benito Juarez Park where hundreds of singing birds gather for sunset. There we will take a quick dive into Mexican modern history from Santa Anna to our present days. After our walk together you will be offered a complimentary refreshment so you can enjoy the rest of your afternoon at one of our best coffee houses on the island. This is a simple yet enriching experience that I love to share with friends and family that need a quick overview of Cozumel's origins, beauties and strategic importance.
Other things to note
Taxi driver's can give you different fees for their service so it's always recommended to ask how much they would charge you before getting in. Another reference for the meeting point is that it is located in front of the military base.

Catalina is a very nice guide that enjoys meeting new people and sharing her knowledge and love of the island with others. She offered many suggestions of great restaurants, places to shop, and history of the island. She introduced us to a great place for coffee, and we will be returning to this coffee shop on our next trip. Catalina is very attentive to her group, and wants to make sure everyone enjoys their time on the island, as well as on her tours.

Nos gustó mucho que con Catalina se puede conocer la isla desde una perspectiva local. El café que nos recomendó estuvo excelente.
