What you'll do

We will meet near Monteriggioni (about 20 minutes drive from Siena), a unique castle surrounded by beautiful countryside, which has been playing a basic role in the regional history.
Sitting in front of a good cappuccino, we’ll decide our route between a range of possible hikes (from 3 to 8 km) to explore the Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrim road which leads to the Vatican city.
The area is fulfilled with amazing views, nature, history and local traditions.
After the hike in the countryside we will conquer the castle, but more is yet to come: walk along the top of the walls and try medieval weapons in the historic museum!
I will give you some good tips for the rest of your day in Monteriggioni and the surrounding area.
Other things to note
Wear proper shoes with good tread. Depending on the season bring hat, sunscreen, raincoat/umbrella.

I was born and raised in the countryside near Siena, by an organic cheese farm. After university I’ve worked and travelled abroad, cultivating my innate passion for nature and outdoor activities.
I currently work as a licensed Nature Guide in Tuscany, my beloved homeland: I really get excited and passionate to share my knowledge with people from around the world. My routes are uncrowded and peaceful, to really experience the soul of this wonderful land. Let’s live it together!

Where you'll be

Meeting point is Bar dell'Orso, Via Cassia Nord 23 Monteriggioni (make sure your gps/phone can find the Bar location, which is next to the highway exit "Monteriggioni").
There is a car park opposite the Bar (if you don't have a car, ask me how to get there).
We will hike through the beautiful countryside up to the castle of Monteriggioni, where we'll enjoy a unique walk on the walls! ...and maybe an artisan gelato ;)

We did a shorter version of the walk because it was raining harder than we expected, but it was still magical due to Daniele's expertise of the area, plants and wildlife. Daniele is easy to be with. We really connected with him. After our short hike, we went up to the castle at Montereggione where we had something warm to drink, walked on top of the walls and toured the castle a bit. We had a great afternoon thanks to Daniele.

This was a great walk on the Via Fracigena. I had been to Montereggioni in the past and this was my first time actually walking on the trail. Daniele took us through quitea bit of trail that offered great views of Montereggioni and the surrounding country side. The trail offers views of Montereggioni that you are amazing!

This is exactly what we wanted to experience, and Daniele was the perfect guide. We wanted to get out of town and see a bit of what life is like for the people who live here. We had Daniele to ourselves for our hike, and he was very personable and knowledgeable. He answered our many questions about every topic we could think of, and really felt like a friend by the end of our time with him.

Great experience! Knowledgeable, personable, and committed to helping us have a good experience. Meeting at the coffee shop was a good idea—we could chat before our hike and he could better understand what our expectations were. We had a toddler with us and he was careful to accommodate our needs. Rapport was easy with Daniele and he was relaxed and fun to be with. I would recommend him to others without hesitation.

We had a great time hiking with Daniele. He accommodated our pace with an 18 month old and we were able to learn a lot more than if we were doing a similar hike on our own. This is a great option for those who want to get to know locals while experiencing a beautiful, less touristy option in the Tuscan countryside.
