What you'll do

Most tourists know the North End neighborhood of Boston as our “Little Italy.” But this isn’t just an Italian neighborhood; it's the oldest part of the city, going back to its' founding in 1630. So this North End crime tour isn't about the mob. It's a chance to learn about a wide swath of lesser-known criminal acts that took place here over the centuries.

From the comfort of your home you'll hear stories of an early red-light district, anarchist riots and police station bombings, Colonial Boston scoundrels, pirates, and Boston's biggest bank heist.

Through video, maps, historic photographs, and drawings we'll "walk" a route that will bring these events to life. Along the way, you'll see parts of this 1 square mile neighborhood most tourists never see--even the ones who visit in person! And of course, I'll be happy to answer any questions.

You'll hopefully leave this tour with an appreciation for the rich historical and ethnic diversity of this almost 400-year-old neighborhood.

And you won't need to bring anything except your interest in true crime and history!

Hi! I'm Kurt! Over the past five years I've given hundreds of tours of Boston's oldest neighborhood, the North End. I'm a storytelling champion with the NPR program, The Moth. My background in libraries, archives, and history means you're getting a thoroughly researched tour with a goal to be historically accurate while keeping things fun. In fact, I've spent dozens of hours researching archives and databases for this virtual tour. The in-person version of my North End Crime Tour has a 5-star rating on Yelp, Google, Facebook, and TripAdvisor with over 50 reviews.

Kurt is very knowledgeable on the topic. 1.5hrs literally flew by. My whole family stayed engaged and was very happy about the experience. We are still talking about some of the crimes. I would definitely sign up for any other tours he may offer. Thank you!

This was a great experience. I knew little about Boston and its history before joining, but Kurt told some fascinating stories from the last few hundred years. I hope to visit in the future, but in the meantime I would recommend this experience for its great storytelling!

It’s hard to find a tour of Cities in the US, so we were happy to find this, and it didn’t disappoint. Kurt really knows his stuff!

Kurt is an amazing storyteller and shed light on the lesser known but yet fascinating stories from Boston. The tour was structured, and had a nice mix of visuals to keep the audience engaged. I really liked the Brink's Job story (haven't watched the movie still) - so thank you for sharing that piece of info. Highly recommended to those interested in crime and/or US cities in general.
