Pull Carbon Dioxide from the Air

What you'll do

As one of no more than ten participants in the Hinwil plant tour you’ll learn firsthand about the importance of carbon dioxide removal and what it actually means to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and permanently store it. Pose questions to the pioneering company featured in the New York Times, Wired and many others to learn how carbon dioxide removal works and why it is so important for the future of our Earth.

The tour starts in front of the local waste incineration in Hinwil, on whose rooftop the Climeworks facility is located. Here, we will do some introductions to get to know each other. Next we’ll go inside the building and up to the rooftop, 20 meters above the ground. You will immediately hear the various sounds of the waste incineration and the humming of the Climeworks plant. As we make our way to the front of the rooftop, you will learn more about the plant, which is the world’s first commercial plant that Climeworks commissioned back in 2017.

If we’re lucky with the weather, you’ll also get a glimpse of the stunning Swiss landscape on the deck in front of the plant, with green fields and snowy mountains in the background.

Last but not least, we will take a close-up look at the plant by climbing on it! This is exclusively offered to the participants of this online experience - visitors are normally not allowed to take such a close-up look.
Other things to note
Whether you are expert or new to the topic of climate science and ways to reverse global warming, this tour is fun and informative. Questions and discussion encouraged.

I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, but call San Francisco, California home now. In 2005 I left a corporate consulting career to focus on adventure travel and have never looked back. I’m on the team at the Adventure Travel Trade Association and have worked in over 30 countries, along the way developing an understanding of how climate change is affecting people and wildlife and nature all around the world. A trip to Antarctica in 2018 with the polar explorer Robert Swan and a global team of activists and scientists deepened my resolve to do what I could to see tourism used as a tool for climate action. In 2019 I founded Tomorrow’s Air to provide travellers with a way to take tangible action, and formed a partnership with Climeworks to deliver direct air capture carbon removal.

I really enjoyed the virtual tour of the Climeworks factory in Switzerland with Tomorrow's Air. The tour was accessible and engaging to any level of knowledge regarding carbon sequestration. I walked away knowing more about the process and excited to share what I learned with my coworkers. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about carbon sequestration.

This is such a unique experience hosted by Christina and Anna. We were able to virtually tour the facility live and learn more about the process of carbon dioxide extraction from the atmosphere. It was a very informative session and their work is truly inspiring. I hope this is implemented in other places around the world . I would highly recommend.

This was my normal way of spending time getting to know some more of the earth realities with Christina and Anna which are so simple and basic--whereas we humans complicate things also by harming anything and everything in the path. This was a good way to question our belief system keeping the ecosystem in mind.

This was an amazing experience with Christina and her two colleagues in Switzerland. I learnt alot with regards to extracting carbon and storing it just to ensure that we have less carbon in the atmosphere. Its such a great technology and I hope its adapted everywhere. Thank you for the very informative session. Do not hesitate to book this experience
