What you'll do

Virtually travel to rainforests across the globe and visit primates where they live and get a glimpse into their inner lives, including those of gorillas, chimpanzees, lemurs, marmosets, and many more.

You'll find out what a primate really is and meet the world's smallest and largest primates, not to mention the strangest looking and the smelliest.

You'll also listen to alarm calls and guess what the monkeys are trying to tell us.

You'll also hear the heartwarming personal stories of Pavel, a marmoset at a sanctuary, and Brigitte, a lemur in Madagascar.

Finally, you'll learn how to tell if a primate is happy or not and how you can help primates.

Expect lots of laughs and interaction in this session that's both entertaining and educational.

Three customized experiences that are perfect for:

1) PRIVATE GROUPS WITH CHILDREN (ages 7+): how to identify an Old World Monkey from a New World Monkey and a nocturnal primate from a diurnal one, + fun facts for kids. (45 minutes)

2) PRIVATE GROUPS FOR ADULTS: adapted to include adult content, including primates' love lives and what we can learn from them. (1 hour)

3) CORPORATE GROUPS/TEAM BUILDING: adapted to help teams connect and socialize with each other while engaging in friendly competition in a fun and innovative way.(1 hour)

Laurel has been observing primates in the wild and in captivity for almost 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Primatology, has taught educational programs about primates, done observational research on gorillas at the Calgary Zoo, and volunteers with primates at a sanctuary in Munich and leads trips to Madagascar to see lemurs with a conservation focus.

She's also researched howler monkeys in the jungles of Belize, volunteered with chimpanzees at a sanctuary in Spain and observed countless primates in the wild including gorillas, lemurs, chimps, macaques, and many more.

Her passion for primates is contagious. She founded "The Primate Connection" https://primateconnection.com/, to help improve the lives of primates. She's currently writing a book about what we can learn from primates.

The kids enjoyed this experience so much that, at the end of the call, they began planning a visit with Laurel for next weekend! My son loves animals, but especially lemurs. He was excited for this experience and the opportunity to include some friends. Over the session, Laurel made sure to include each friend while still making it special for Jack (she led a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday!). The kids loved the fun facts, videos, and photos she shared. On the adult side, I appreciated Laurel's flexibility and patience. I'm not familiar with this platform and misunderstood some of the booking options. At the last minute, Laurel worked with me to make it a great experience for everyone. Highly recommend!!

We absolutely loved Laurel’s primate experience! She was so knowledgeable and made the learning fun. We booked it for our son’s 11th birthday, and he and his 9 year old sister loved learning about the different types of primates and Laurel’s firsthand experiences with them. Laurel was so engaging with the kids and drew them in with questions and multimedia spots on the primates. The 60 minutes passed in a flash, and we all came out knowing so much more about this wonderful primate world than we did when we went in. Highly recommend!

This experience was offered as an elective to our school's high school students. Here's what the students wrote after the experience:**This session was so fun! Thank you Laurel for taking us through your experience with primates and adding those interactive questions for us to participate in. I really enjoyed looking at those videos of lemurs and primates. It would be even cooler if we could look at them in person but this was also very cool remotely.**This was super interesting, I love working with animals and I liked the synthesis of cute pictures but also information. You were clearly very passionate, and the work you do with primates was very interesting.**Engaging presenter and interesting topic**I really enjoyed learning about primates and their habitats, I learned about a lot of distinctions between different primates that I did not know of before.**

My kids and their cousins got to bond over their shared love of primates! Laurel kept 7 kids between age 5-8 riveted with her real life stories. The kids (and parents) were impressed at how much fun the “virtual field trip” was and a bit surprised at how much the kids learned and engaged. Laurel made sure every child was involved... even my normally reserved child was actively participating. Our internet cut off right as it started and she was kind enough to stay longer to make up for our technical issues.

What a wonderful overview into the fascinating lives of primates! Laurel customized her our experience and took the time to answer our questions. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has been watching nature documentaries during quarantine and is looking for a deeper understanding of our primate friends.

Laurel comes across as an expert in the field and great story teller. Her presentation was full of interesting facts and captivating videos, also of her own experiences with primates. The session was fun, engaging and informative - would highly recommend!
