What you'll do

Virtually travel to rainforests across the globe and visit primates where they live and get a glimpse into their inner lives, including those of gorillas, chimpanzees, lemurs, marmosets, and many more.

You'll find out what a primate really is and meet the world's smallest and largest primates, not to mention the strangest looking and the smelliest.

You'll also listen to alarm calls and guess what the monkeys are trying to tell us.

You'll also hear the heartwarming personal stories of Pavel, a marmoset at a sanctuary, and Brigitte, a lemur in Madagascar.

Finally, you'll learn how to tell if a primate is happy or not and how you can help primates.

Expect lots of laughs and interaction in this session that's both entertaining and educational.

Three customized experiences that are perfect for:

1) PRIVATE GROUPS WITH CHILDREN: adapted to include how to identify an Old World Monkey from a New World Monkey and a nocturnal primate from a diurnal one, + fun facts for kids. The session is 45 minutes, plus time for questions.

2) PRIVATE GROUPS FOR ADULTS: adapted to include adult content, including primates' love lives and what we can learn from them.

3) CORPORATE GROUPS/TEAM BUILDING: adapted to help teams connect and socialize with each other while engaging in friendly competition in a fun and innovative way.

Laurel has been observing primates in the wild and in captivity for almost 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Primatology, has taught educational programs about primates, done observational research on gorillas at the Calgary Zoo, and volunteers with primates at a sanctuary in Munich and leads trips to Madagascar to see lemurs with a conservation focus.

She's also researched howler monkeys in the jungles of Belize, volunteered with chimpanzees at a sanctuary in Spain and observed countless primates in the wild including gorillas, lemurs, chimps, macaques, and many more.

Her passion for primates is contagious. She founded "The Primate Connection" https://primateconnection.com/, to help improve the lives of primates. She's currently writing a book about what we can learn from primates.

Laurel comes across as an expert in the field and great story teller. Her presentation was full of interesting facts and captivating videos, also of her own experiences with primates. The session was fun, engaging and informative - would highly recommend!

Wow! This was such a spectacular experience. Laurel is not only an expert in her field, but a passionate soul and an immersive storyteller. There was a big age range in the group and she managed to make us all feel included. We all shared a little bit of that childlike wonder. It honestly felt like I was back in school, but in the most magical way possible! I learned so much and had all of my curiosities answered. Thank you so much!

I'm so thankful for this virtual field trip experience that the children were able to take, even with Covid-19 restrictions: The third and fourth grade children's book club that I lead, participated in this Primate experience to celebrate finishing the Newbery-winning book, The One and Only Ivan. The children were intent and actively participating throughout the entire session. One mom contacted me immediately after to say that her child had run out into the other room, anxious to tell her all about it and to find out more about his new favorite primates (we learned about so many kinds in this experience.) Leading up to the successful "field trip", Laurel reliably communicated with me and actually took the time to read the book so she was able to tailor the trip to the children's experience with the book. She has had so much experience with different primates in different countries and was able share her stories of the primates she had studied. This was such a nice, memorable experience that we all enjoyed.

This was an absolutely brilliant experience! Laurel is very enthuesiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. I felt that I learnt an awful lot about primates from doing this, but she hosts the experience in such a way that as well as being educational it is also really fun, with lots of interactive parts, and interesting and unusual stories. She was also very willing to answer questions.
