What you'll do

Our journey begins in early California mission life by strolling the grounds, creating and composing interesting images and reviewing the results. Included are macro shots of the lily pond, reflections, light and shadow, architecture, low light, composition, symmetry and a brief discussion of wedding photography if you are interested.

Inside the chapel, each guest will work individually and quietly in low light. We will compare and discuss results outside after ample time to absorb the experience and apply techniques learned.

Legend tells the story of how the swallows return to the mission each year in March. While fewer swallows return each year, guests will see "housing" to attract the elusive birds. Photographing in this California landmark is unique because of the historical exhibits, the architecture and the light - at all times of the day.

Every guest can spend additional time at the Mission to experience deeply the early California lifestyle including Spanish Colonial Art, Native American life, the Bell Wall, ruins, agriculture, and cemetery.
Other things to note
Bring your DSLR or smartphone, hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes.

Arrange your own transportation - you can even arrive conveniently by train. The station is very close within walking distance.

We had a wonderful learning experience with Julie. Getting immediate feedback on our photography questions was incredibly helpful! She would also give us specific challenges to help us understand certain topics. We were able to really sink deep into topic we needed help with and came out with a LOT of growth. Julie is incredibly knowledgeable and an experienced teacher. From business knowledge to adjusting white balance to what kind of equipment to purchase next to meet our goals, she addressed it all. I would absolutely work with her again!!

Mission San Juan Capistrano is an amazing place and worth everyone to visit. Julie is an experienced photographer and educator. With her guidence, I was able to see many hidden beauty and interesting details with a photographer's points of view. I'd like to go with Julie to more places in Orange County in the future. Thanks to Airbnb provides these services and allows me to enjoy my trip more. Suggestion: it's better to change to 2 1/2 or 3 hours (starting earlier for better sun light) experience.
