What you'll do
Our workshops are designed for anyone who would like to explore Chinese art and culture. Workshops are taught in English, and no previous background is necessary. In the first 1.5 hours, you will get a brief overview of the history of Chinese calligraphy, hear interesting stories behind great works of art, explore writing tools which have been used for a thousand years, and inscribe your own fan in the same way as the ancients. In the last half an hour, you will experience a tea ceremony and learn how to taste and pour your own tea like the Chinese!
You will learn in a small group setting. All materials and tea are included, and you can take your own artwork home.
You will discover a new world that is more than just art—it is the very spirit of life that Chinese people have lived by for thousands of years.
Other things to note
It is unlikely that you will get ink stains on your clothes. However, we recommend wearing something not too delicate just in case. Price includes all materials, tea and one final artwork.

Born and raised in Shanghai, I grew up immersed in traditional culture through years of training in Chinese calligraphy and painting. I lived and worked in NYC for several years, studying with Mr. Yu Wenhui, the President of the Association of Chinese Calligraphy in America. In the U.S., I also gained a better understanding of how East meets West. In 2016, I returned to Shanghai and founded InkMoon Workshop in order to share Chinese culture with anyone, regardless of background or experience.
Where you'll be
We are located in a beautiful Chinese tea house located on one of the leafy tree-lined boulevards of the former French Concession. We have a delicate walled garden and you will feel at peace the moment you arrive.

My friends and I had an extremely enjoyable time at the workshop. Lucy and her friend
(who's name I didn't catch) both made us feel very welcomed. Lucy was attentive, had a gentle manner and was extremely supportive, even if we did lack confidence in our calligraphy ability! I would highly recommend this workshop to others.

It was very fun and enjoyable class. Lucy shared a lot of artwork and copies of prized calligraphy and the story behind them. Just a small peek into the vast Chinese art of calligraphy. Left with a beautiful fan with our calligraphy handwriting!
