What you'll do

In this 3 hour class, you'll begin with a horseshoe and end with your very own, handmade knife! Absolutely no prior experience is required and is suitable for ages 6+. No lifting required and little strength necessary, though hand-eye coordination always helps (READ DISCLAIMER AT BOTTOM PRIOR TO SCHEDULING).

The curriculum is designed to flow seamlessly and be tons of fun:
1) You'll begin the class by putting on safety gear and reviewing safety procedures.
2) You'll use traditional blacksmithing equipment (forges, hammers, and anvils) to forge a knife from a horseshoe.
3) Each step will be demonstrated and guidance will be provided throughout the class.

DISCLAIMER: Participants will be using hammers to move hot steel. This implies that your arm may become sore from hammering! Don't worry, we've never had a student fail to complete a project. If you have any disabilities that may prevent you from standing and hammering for long periods of time, please let me know prior to scheduling.
Other things to note: Open-toed shoes are not allowed. Avoid synthetic pants & shirts (best to have cotton jeans & a cotton top).
*WE CAN SHIP YOUR KNIFE IF YOU'RE UNABLE TO TRAVEL WITH IT

Your class may be led by either me (Max) or one of my instructors (Spiff, Jason, Matt, Randy, Sean, Tyler, Nikk or Jim).

I opened this experience with two goals in mind: First, to get you excited about blacksmithing by getting your hands dirty; Second, to facilitate the most fun you've ever had with your companions!

My passion for blacksmithing stems from a love of knife making, which I've been doing recreationally for over 18 years. Only in the last year did I make the decision to leave my career in technology to follow this calling full-time.

Really fun experience! Well organized and great instructors! We had Jason and Nikk - so great! It was fun to learn about the Anvils we were working on & the process of forging a knife :) My hubby and I went with our two adult sons and had a blast!

My 10yr old grandson completed and felt so proud of his knife he made! I love that there is still opportunities available to let kids and people handle real tools and equipment. And on the way home, (sushi included!) he said this had been his best day. He said, “I keep liking and looking at my knife, and thinking , I made this”. Success! I liked it also, and now am a proud owner of my very own nightstand knife.

Even though there were a lot of people there, you didn’t have to wait for things; instructors guiding you or sharpening. Perfect amount attention. Our 24yo said he had a blast, my 74yo dad said the same.

This was an excellent experience for something different for a date night! They also had a birthday party(?) in the other room and great seeing kids getting to try their hand at these skills in a controlled environment! The office party that came in after us, was also a great option for those that want something different Vice the usual restaurant or bowling. Great job to the team out there.

I wanted to take my son to the horseshoe knife class to make a Christmas gift for his dad. I figured he would need help so asked if we could register together for one spot. They were very accommodating of the request and their communication was great from booking through the experience itself. It was a nice group of people, Sean’s instruction was clear and direct and he did a great job walking around and offering extra help and guidance when we needed it. My son (he’s ten) is SO HAPPY and excited to give his dad this gift. I absolutely recommend this experience for a fun activity, date, or gift idea.

The forge was an awesome experience! I went with my Boyfriend for his Birthday and it was a blast! Our instructor Sean was very knowledgeable and easy to follow along to. They were extremely courteous letting us in even though we arrived a little late. Overall we definitely recommend this experience to anyone interested!
