What you'll do

*IF YOUR PREFERRED CLASS IS FULL/UNAVAILABLE, PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE TO SEE IF WE CAN SNEAK YOU IN
*WE CAN SHIP YOUR KNIFE IF YOU'RE UNABLE TO TRAVEL WITH IT

In this 3 hour class, you'll begin with a horseshoe and end with your very own, handmade knife! Absolutely no prior experience is required and is suitable for ages 8+. No lifting required and little strength necessary, though hand-eye coordination always helps (READ DISCLAIMER AT BOTTOM PRIOR TO SCHEDULING).

The curriculum is designed to flow seamlessly and be tons of fun:
1) You'll begin the class by putting on safety gear and reviewing safety procedures.
2) You'll use traditional blacksmithing equipment (forges, hammers, and anvils) to forge a knife from a horseshoe.
3) Each step will be demonstrated and guidance will be provided throughout the class.

DISCLAIMER: Participants will be using hammers to move hot steel. This implies that your arm may become sore from hammering! Don't worry, we've never had a student fail to complete a project. If you have any disabilities that may prevent you from standing and hammering for long periods of time, please let me know prior to scheduling.
Other things to note: Open-toed shoes are not allowed. Avoid synthetic pants & shirts (best to have cotton jeans & a cotton top).

NOTE: Your class may be led by either me (Max) or one of my instructors (Buddy, Spiff, Gage, Jack, Randy, or Alair).

I opened this experience with two goals in mind: First, to get you excited about blacksmithing by getting your hands dirty; Second, to facilitate the most fun you've ever had with your companions!

My passion for blacksmithing stems from a love of knife making, which I've been doing recreationally for over 18 years. Only in the last year did I make the decision to leave my career in technology to follow this calling full-time.

Where you'll be

You'll feel as if you were transported to an old-world blacksmith shop, though you'll remain in the heartland of Seattle's industrial district known as SoDo.

The shop is a 10 minute drive south from downtown Seattle and has plenty of free parking.

This was such a great experience! I took my 15 year old daughter Werth me and we both had a blast. The atmosphere was really great, and Matt, our teacher, was awesome! The time flew by and we really enjoyed the whole process.

Spiff struck the perfect balance of encouraging independence and guiding you along. In the end you’ll be very proud of your creation and the process it took to get there. A great way to see a different part of Seattle and feel accomplished.

I’ve never done it before and for the first try result was not bad ) The best thing is you can transform something like the half of the horse shoe into completely different thing like a knife in this case. You definitely learn new skills and get some feelings how to work with hot iron. Very cool. I really enjoyed it and really like instructors. Highly recommend.

This was such a fun experience that I did with my son while visiting Seattle. Our instructor was Randy and absolutely top notch! He assisted my 12 year old son and gave him so much confidence that he could do it! I loved that. He was great at bouncing around and making sure everyone had assistance and could do it! I recommend everyone trying this class!

So fun! Our family of four had a great afternoon at the forge. 4 horseshoe knives later, we’re off to make ourselves a knife block! Thanks for the superb hospitality, Matt.
