What you'll do

From our family restaurant located in the heart of the historic center of Cartagena, Colombia we will connect to learn traditional Colombian recipes and the stories behind the dishes and us too.

Get ready because you will prepare the delicious and crunchy empanadas made with corn flour like a native Colombian,
without forgetting the sour cream sauce, which is indispensable for eating empanadas here in Colombia. we will also prepare the filling for our empanadas from scratch (if you are a vegetarian there is room for you too!)

Besides the empanadas we will also prepare the delicious and multifaceted patacones, they are soft inside but crunchy outside, and you can't miss their respective typical sauce, where butter and garlic predominate to give them their characteristic flavor! which you will learn to prepare too!

We will also prepare the Arepas, soft and full of cheese, so much so that it melts and comes out by its edges!

This class is a good way to connect with your friends, or a great date for your partner too, or if you prefer a fun activity to do with your family! My intention is that this class will end up being an unforgettable lunch/dinner.

If you are interested in a private class for you and your friends or for a business event, do not doubt to ask, we will be available!

Note: the ingredients work for at least 3 people.

Our names are Jose, Daniela and Orlando, we are chefs of typical Cartagena food in our own reststaurant! our families have created a restaurant with our recipes in the historic center of the city, in that same restaurant we began to give cooking classes to travelers from around the world, and we discovered as a family that sharing our culture is something very rewarding, honestly one of the best experiences of our lives, and many friends made, many stories, many things learned, and many smiles.

We truly enjoyed this cooking class and am excited to continue to cook empanadas and arepas for my friends and family after being so graciously taught by Jose! Our team of 8 took this class for community building and we all were so pleased with the flow of the event and of course the delicious outcome our efforts resulted in!

such a fun way to bond with my dad. they made intimidating dishes super simple and fun- and they were delicious! they also navigated substitutions and different ingredients really well for the group.

This class was awesome! The five of us had a great time cooking together and Orlando was an excellent teacher—very helpful and detailed. We are all planning on making arepas and empanadas in the future :) As a heads up, you make 3 empanadas and 1 arepas during the class, so if you have a larger group and want to make more than that during the class (as opposed to after), I’d recommend having a couple extra pans to fry/cook things in. This was my first virtual AirBnB experience and it went so well that I’m planning on taking more classes in the future and would love to take another class from Orlando!

Orlando was a wonderful host, very engaging and including every individual in our group in conversation! The photos we all took of the dishes we prepared show clearly what great instruction and direction we received! I am excited to continue to make these dishes for my family!

Awesome experience! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys cooking. Orlando was great at explaining every step of the process and checked in with everyone to make sure we were all doing okay. I had never made any of these dishes before (or even worked with corn flour) but now that I understand the basics of making empanadas, I feel like I can continue making them in the future and build off of what I learned in this class.

It was very fun learning how to make these authentic dishes! They were very flexible with us as we had to adjust the cooking a little for our group. However, the class started an hour later than our booked time. Not sure if that was an Airbnb or host issue. And unfortunately, the audio came across very quiet and we had to keep asking him to repeat instructions.
