What you'll do

Learn pre-hispanic craftsmanship with a textile artist

Prepare to learn ancestral dye techniques and discover amazing colors that only nature can provide. In this workshop you will not only learn historical facts and the recipes I have collected throughout the years, but you will also experiment with tones, mix ingredients and create formulas to obtain 30 different colors and develop a beautiful wall hanging for you to take home. Some of the pigment sources you will learn to use are indigo, cochineal, and seasonal herbs or flowers. Since all the materials come from nature, all the procedures are nontoxic and enviroment friendly.

I'm a Mexican textile artist who studied fashion design and fiber arts, I started learning Mexican textiles all around the country six years ago, It was in Oaxaca where I fell in love with the vibrant hues of ancient textiles. Since then I have developed several projects including a brand of artisanal backpacks using some of the materials and methods we will cover in this workshop.

I had so much fun learning natural dyeing techniques with Annabel! I left with a ring of pretty samples that I can display, and I also left with the knowledge of how to do this on my own at home. I highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in the fiber arts.

The experience with Anabel for the dye-ing course was incredible. She's got a lot of knowledge about different techniques, colors, textiles, tons of interesting books and is very keen on giving you as much information and experience in the given time, involving you actively in the process of natural color dyeing. you can feel she has a real affection for it which is infectious. I will look into her online courses and would love to learn more.

This was an awesome experience! Anabel was clearly an expert on natural dyeing and could answer all our questions. She was also a gracious host, friendly and warm, and accommodated us when we ran over time. The complexity of the dyeing practice also kept us engaged and she made sure we could all participate. It was exceptionally well organized and well thought-out. I highly recommend this experience! I have hung the beautiful wall hanging that we dyed in my living room for everyone to see. =)

This experience was very unique! It was so cool to see how certain natural substances like flowers or insects, could be turned into dye and how the colors are not always what you expect! Anabel is an expert in this subject and provided further resources for us to look into as well!
