What you'll do
For approximately 2 hours we will walk along the Aveiro lagoon in order to observe different species of birds, trying to understand and capture their behavior in a natural environment. We will also have the opportunity to enjoy the nature that surrounds the city of Aveiro, its lagoon, geology, trying to understand the interaction between human activities and this natural environment during the last centuries.
We will try to observe large birds, such as birds of prey, sea birds, herons, flamingos and storks, as well as small birds, whether different types of waders, sandpipers, felosas, among others.
This activity will be developed both in the early morning and late afternoon, two of the best periods for daytime bird watching.
Being a personalized activity and carried out outdoors, in times of pandemic COVID-19, this activity has, by itself, a lower associated risk.
Other things to note
I will bring a camera and a pair of binoculars that can be used freely by guests. If possible, I suggest that guests bring this type of material.
Then just enjoy the landscape and its "inhabitants".

I have been a geologist for over 15 years. In 2019, I created "OUTCROP", a company dedicated to geotourism and geoscience consulting. I also have a Masters and PhD in geosciences, having worked for several years in the oil industry and in public institutes. I lived and worked in different places around the world. In addition to geology, interest in the natural environment and wildlife arises from an early age, combined with photography. The region of Aveiro offers one of the best places in Portugal for bird watching.
Following the pandemic COVID-19, OUTCROP obtained the "Clean & Safe" certification awarded by Turismo de Portugal in line with the recommendations of the general health department. In this sense, there was a reinforcement of hygiene and individual protection measures.

What a unique way to spend an evening. Gil was great company with much local knowledge about the birds and the salt pans. The beauty of the area was just magical. We definitely wouldn’t have been able to experience this without Gil as our guide.
