What you'll do
In this 2 hour class, you will begin with a piece of cold steel and end with your very own, handmade bottle opener! Absolutely no prior experience is required and is suitable for ages 8+. No lifting required and little strength necessary, though hand-eye coordination always helps (READ DISCLAIMER AT BOTTOM).
The curriculum is designed to keep you engaged, excited, and active with virtually no waiting around:
1) You will begin the class by putting on safety gear (glasses, gloves, and an apron) and reviewing safety procedures, followed by a 5 minute discussion about the history of blacksmithing.
2) Then it's time for the fun!
3) You'll use traditional blacksmithing equipment (forges, hammers, and anvils) to turn hot steel into a bottle opener.
4) Each step will be demonstrated and guidance will be provided throughout the class.
DISCLAIMER: Participants will be using hammers to mold hot steel. This implies that your arm may become soar from hammering! But don't worry, we've never had a student unable to complete a project. If you have any disabilities that may prevent you from standing and hammering for long periods of time, please let me know prior to scheduling.
Other things to note
Open-toed shoes are not allowed. Avoid synthetic pants & shirts (best to have cotton jeans & a cotton top).

Hey there! My goal in providing this experience is two-fold. First, I aim to get you excited about blacksmithing. Second, I'm committed to teaching you some cool new skills!
My passion for blacksmithing stems from a love of knife making (which I've been doing recreationally for the last 18 years). Only in the last year did I make the decision to leave my career in technology to follow this calling full-time.
In addition to blacksmithing, I have a strong passion for teaching and sharing exciting experiences with others. I promise you'll have an unforgettable time!

Where you'll be
You'll feel as if you were transported to an old-world blacksmith shop, though you'll remain in the heartland of Seattle's industrial district known as SoDo.
The shop is a 10 minute drive south from downtown Seattle and has plenty of free parking.

We absolutely loved the experience! We’re from Boston and haven’t experienced anything like this before. We’d absolutely come back for these classes. Jim was an amazing teacher and very patient with us. And the outcome was even cooler than we expected

This was such a great experience! It’s a really fun + easy introduction to blacksmithing. I brought my husband here for a Valentine’s date and he absolutely loved it. Max is super cool, knowledgeable, and helpful - thanks for the one-of-a-kind experience!
