What you'll do

Let's turn grocery store ingredients into restaurant-worthy dishes. Many of my guests are stunned to learn how simple it is to create these delicious dishes.

First, we'll introduce ourselves to break the ice. Then we'll go right into hands-on cooking! We'll start with making ricotta cheese in a very simple way with ingredients that you are likely to already have at home. We'll also create a simple tartine and "grown-up mac 'n cheese" using a few simple ingredients, including the ricotta cheese that you just made.

In the process, you'll have a chance to take a virtual tour of my garden here in California wine country to learn about culinary herbs and edible flowers. I will teach you ways to use the whey, which is a byproduct of cheesemaking.

Once we finish cooking, we will sit and taste what we created and talk about the recipes, the experience, and life in wine country. We'll even drink some wine together, and I will make some suggestions for you about matching wine with what we made.

This is an online experience. If you are prepared with all of the items listed above, you should be able to follow along and cook as we go. I will also provide you recipes via email after this experience.

How to participate

    Juli can host private groups of any size, up to 15 guests. Private group rates start at $137.

What to bring

  • Desktop or mobile device. Stable WiFi.
  • For the ricotta: 1 quart Whole or 2% milk, not ultra-pasteurized or shelf-stable. We have had success with lactose-free milk.
  • For the tartines: Bread (rustic is best), honey and/or olive oil and toppings such as herbs, dried fruits, smoked fish etc.
  • For the mac 'n cheese: 4 ounces dry pasta, grated romano or parmesan cheese, and coarsely ground black pepper
  • Measuring cups and measuring spoons

A brilliant experience with Juli and Walt - being taught how to make the ricotta and watching the curds and whey separate was a unique experience. It was so straightforward to do and we enjoyed the process and the recipes that we have done it a few more times already for friends and made other dishes too.
