What you'll do

In this unique hands-on workshop, you'll shape your own skateboard deck with an experienced skateboarder and builder.
An uncut, molded deck will be your starting point for this experience. The stocked boards can be made up to 8.5" x 33" (please message me if you're interested in the availability of a longer/wider uncut blank, which are occasionally stocked and available for an upgrade fee).
As we work through the shaping process, you'll create a custom template or use a stock template to shape the board, then cut and finish the board yourself.
You'll leave with a completed skateboard deck which you can apply art to on your own time.
*Please note that this experience price does not include other skateboard parts (trucks, wheels, etc.) - if you wish to purchase these during the workshop, please let me know in advance.

I have been skateboarding for 20+ years and have a professional background in mechanical engineering. I run Open Source Skateboards, a skateboard design/build studio and educational project. I started Open Source Skateboards in 2014 to help people design and build boards and have a great time being creative! I've taught workshops at schools and makerspaces throughout San Diego county and have shaped boards for customers all over the world.

After 20+ years of being together, coming up with new ideas to surprise each other can sometimes be difficult. It was my husbands 40th birthday and I really was looking to share another new, amazing adventure with him. He has always loved to skate and had been trying to find time to get back to it. So very grateful I came across this experience opportunity! It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience for my husband and I. Beau is truly an expert! He was able to combine his passion for skateboarding, his background in engineering, and his genuine desire to share this with others. Thank you so very much Beau!

This was an immersive experience, hosted by Beau, who was both professional and personable. He was so patient with my boyfriend (who created a custom-board), and exuded both knowledge and safety awareness when working with power tools. My boyfriend and I are so excited with his new board and hope to see Beau again for another piece in the future!

This experience was one of the best times my buddies and I have had in a while. Beau let us go right after it from the start and we all created some pretty awesome boards.

My boyfriend greatly enjoyed this experience! From his perspective: Beau is an excellent teacher and made the skateboard making process easy to follow. He tailored the experience to my skill level and made it a lot of fun.

First off - Beau’s communication is incredible! This was very helpful when planning my husband’s birthday surprise. He not only answered my million & 2 questions - but was open to even more (if needed). During the experience, Beau walked my husband John through each step thoughtfully and kept a watchful eye, while still allowing John to get a true hands-on experience in the project. Beau really showcased his love, not only for the art, but the community of skateboarding. He has a great ease in teaching this trade, while also sharing his the space that continually inspires him! Highly recommend this very unique and engaging experience!

Beau was incredible. He is a kind, warm, patient, cool teacher and my son had and I had a memorable experience with him. My kiddo is nuero-diverse (anxious, ADHD, a bit autistic) and Beau was perfect with him. We are so grateful, and so pumped to be skating on his new board! This experience is on-point for kids and adults--parents, if you have real skater kids, bring them to Beau. But I would come on my own with my girlfriend too. Just amazing experience.
