What you'll do

Enchanted by the Northside and Mexican War Streets? Me, too! This is an opportunity to take a walking tour with a local resident. Stroll Victorian streets and parks, learning about this vibrant section of Pittsburgh. From the Civil War era through today's revitalization of the arts, tech and culture, I'll share my delighted, curious and informed perspective of this storied and diverse community.
We'll begin on the site of a path blazed by the Seneca Indians , and weave through history to the present day. Guests will enjoy guessing games and activities along the way, enjoying anecdotes about Northside residents past and present, some reputable, some not! We'll do a deep dive into the history of a few stately residences, learning about the architecture and renovation renaissance that makes this area special. The 2 mile route is flat, with endless opportunities for photography and room for questions. You will leave feeling a connection to the community and one another, as well as a new appreciation for the depth and diversity of the Steel City. Guests will be provided with tips for VIP treatment at local food and drink venues after the tour, and are encouraged to continue enjoying the neighborhood on their own!

I am a native New Yorker, and moved to Pittsburgh from Florida. I unexpectedly fell crazy in love with the beauty and friendliness of Pittsburgh, specifically the Northside and Mexican War Streets. I am a part-time professor and amateur historian, and find joy in sharing my knowledge and experience with visitors. It is so much fun to meet new people. It's great to impart my enthusiasm for this incredible community and its evolution over the centuries from steel city to a center of arts and technology. My husband and I are in the process of renovating an 1860 home in the area, and I am a member of the Allegheny City Historical Society and Mexican War Streets Society. It is my pleasure to welcome folks to my adopted home town.

Where you'll be

Our tour begins in Front of the New Hazlett Theater, and will take us through parks and cobblestone streets, and a tree-lined Victorian neighborhood on the north shore of Pittsburgh. The area was once known as "Allegheny City", and is now called "Northside" or the "Mexican War Streets" by locals. We'll pass and learn about museums, historical sites and homes, as well as view public art installations.
