What you'll do

We will meet in Haji Lane, Singapore, and we will head to a nearby cafe for 30 minutes to an hour where I will explain about Single Lens Reflex (SLR) and Twins Lens Reflex (TLR) cameras and show you how to load film, wind them, set the ISO, adjust the shutter speed, aperture and how to manually focus. I will also explain what each of the terms means, and I will give you a full run-through on how the entire process of film photography works.

Thereafter, I will pass you the cameras and we will take a walk around Haji Lane where there are numerous spots with graffiti and murals on the walls which make for lovely backgrounds for either street or portrait photography. Being outdoors in the day means that lighting will not be a problem.

Along the way, I will continue to guide you through the entire process as you shoot with the film cameras. I will explain what settings need to be adjusted as well as focused on depending on the shooting circumstances and surroundings.

After the experience, I will show you how to unload the film, and thereafter I will bring the rolls to be developed and finally, sent to you via a cloud drive/email. Everything from the start to end will be provided so all you need to bring along is an open mind, a willingness to learn, and your enthusiastic, happy selves! I will run the experience in small groups to be able to ensure quality.

Meet your host, Jonathan

Host on Airbnb since 2019

Hey! My name is Jonathan and I'm a Singaporean who has lived in Korea for 6 years. I have been doing photography since 2011 and have done it professionally as a freelancer since 2014. Although I do digital photography as well, I have been dabbling in film photography since 2011 and I own and shoot with a Praktica SLR and a Rolleiflex TLR. I focus mostly on portrait photography as well as street photography.

I'm a person who's very bright and I love to meet people from all different countries and cultures thus I signed up to be a host here on AirBnB Experiences. I am a person who is excited to share my passion, as well as my knowledge with people who are interested to learn in film photography but have no idea where to start and who do not wish to invest in a film camera, which may be expensive.
