What you'll do
A life long memory! -More dates will be announced in May-
Combine your visit to Athens with this unique opportunity to row the only trireme in existence, the most formidable warship in the Mediterranean during the classical period of Greece. Our professional expert guarantees you the highest knowledge level.
Family friendly, suitable for anyone over 12years old.
Our experience starts at the dock of the Floating Naval Museum (VIP entrance -skip the line). During the 1st hour you will learn everything about the ship and its crew. You will also become familiar with 2500years old sea war tactics and learn about the 3 methods of ramming, defining the “ideal strike”.
Then you will practice your knowledge while boarding and sailing the trireme, becoming a fearless ancient seafarer! The ship is owned by the Hellenic Navy and it is a replica of an ancient Greek warship, operating exclusively with the power of its 170 rowers! You will take your place as a rower and learn to row according to the captain’s orders in ancient Greek. Then, we will sail and do a round of about 60min until the ship returns in the harbor. The whole process (boarding, training, sailing, rowing, docking, and debarkation) lasts about 2 hours.
After our workshop you are able to SELF-explore the rest historical ships of the Naval Floating Museum (under the same ticket, included).
Other things to note
Admission fee included. On the trireme you can keep a SMALL backpack; No food/beverages, only water. Age limit 75 ; a reasonable fitness level is required. In case of poor weather, or too few rowers, the Hellenic Navy may forbid the sailing, and do static rowing. 1 adult can accompany up to 2 kids.
