What you'll do

Discover what it's like to run an 8 acre tropical fruit farm in paradise! You'll use all our senses on a walking tour of Lokoea Farms. We'll give you some history of the farm and the area, and guide your exploration of our 3 orchards to learn about the ethnobotany and horticulture of Hawai‘i's unique fruit trees and harvest some fruits in season. Get ready to marvel at our vanilla plants and smell the aroma of our vanilla beans. You'll even get to help feed our hilarious chickens, and collect their rainbow-colored eggs.

Then it's time for our picnic! We'll relax on the lawn or at the picnic table overlooking the gorgeous orchid-filled gardens while you eat your fill of farm-grown exotic tropical fruit and nuts - the freshest, most delicious, and perfectly in season delicacies. We'll teach you how to use our coconut husker to open up a coconut. Nothing store-bought can compare to the amazing flavor of coconut water and meat from a just-picked nut. You'll even use our special nutcracker to experience the rich flavor of our macadamia nuts.
Other things to note
Wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. We have a composting toilet available at the farm. Starbucks or McDonalds in Haleiwa also have public restrooms. You may want to bring bug spray and water bottle.

A 6th generation local, Noe grew up on the land where the farm is now, back when it was surrounded by sugarcane, and Hale‘iwa was still a sleepy little plantation town. After spending some time on the mainland, she returned to her hometown to help her family run the farm. She's learned a lot about tropical fruit and citrus in the last three years, and the struggling little business is now financially sustainable and provides her with a full-time job. Like our trees, Noe has deep roots in this special place.

Kekai is the first non-family employee at Lokoea Farms. When he's not working here, he's studying ‘Olelo Hawai‘i (Hawaiian language) and Malama ‘Aina (sustainability) at the University of Hawaii. His enthusiasm is contagious and he's a master at husking coconuts.

We love our farm, and we'd love to share it with you.

Where you'll be

Lokoea Farms is eight beautiful acres nestled in the Anahulu River Valley, at the base of impressive Mt. Ka‘ala. Just off the main highway, we are easy to find, but just far enough from the hustle and bustle of Hale‘iwa town. It's our little slice of paradise, filled with exotic trees, gorgeous orchids, and lots of peace and quiet.

We had a nice time exploring the different fruits that were offered and my two year old son loved picking the fruit! Our host was fantastic with him and he loved getting to smash open a coconut!

I was very happy to learn about some agriculture and have a chance to eat a variety of fruits. Don't skip on sunscreen or bug repellent. Walk was easy enough to do it could be done in sandals but I recommend actual shoes because it is a farm

This event was a major highlight in the trip I shared with my sister and we had the most amazing time. Getting to try fresh, vibrant fruits, pick and crack open macadamia nuts, and enjoy them right on the beautiful farm was an incredible way to kick off our day. We loved learning about all of the aspects of the farm, too. Now that we're home, we're definitely missing those delicious fruits even more. Should we make it back to the island, this will definitely be on our to-do list again!

Highly recommend! This experience was the highlight of our trip to Oahu. It was fascinating to learn about the different fruits…and delightful to taste them, too! Kids enjoyed the hands-on activities like feeding chickens and cracking coconuts. Noe practices permaculture, and in the tradition of her father, is bringing the land back into balance after it was a sugar plantation for many years. She shared her knowledge about local produce and the exotic species that she is helping to preserve. Noe is a trailblazer and her work at Lokoea Farms is inspiring. Support ecotourism and book this tour! We loved it. Mahalo nui loa, Noe!
