What you'll do

Have a go at winter sea kayaking in crystal clear fjords, surrounded by snowcovered mountains as a backdrop. This is a hands on rugged arctic experience and a to do while in Tromsø.

With our heated arctic tent as a basecamp, we suit up in drysuits and arctic gear, kayaking our way in one of the fjords, among islands or around the archipelagos surrounding Tromsø.

More than often a seal or two will curiously show up by our side and follow us for a while. If luck is on our side we might find ourselves surrounded by a couple of popoise whales that regularly pass through our sounds.

We make time always to go ashore for a break, to light a fire and warm up with hot drinks and snacks.

We take photos while on the water that we share with you after the tour.

This is a guided tour and you do not need previous experience to join us. A safety briefing and introduction to winter sea kayaking will be given before setting out.

Leaving the army a little more than 25 years ago, I told my mother I would be staying for three months to explore the arctic before returning south. She is still waiting for me:-)

Since then I have spend nearly three decades kayaking, mountaineering and skiing in this region of the arctic, getting to know the mountains, fjords and archipelagos like my own back pocket.

I am so lucky to make my living as a sea kayaking and mountaineering guide, so most days I am found somewhere between the sea and a summit, often showing of my backyard to visiting customers.
One of my main goals is to give you an unforgettable and rugged hands on experience.

Between being a father and a husband, I spend my spare time honing skills and continous education in kayaking, skiing and mountaineering. I also work with students, teaching the outdoor trade.

Where you'll be

For our winter kayaking tour we will find ourselves in the area of Håkøya, a local sea kayaking hotspot in close proximity to Tromsø city centre. Calm waters, resident flocks of seals and the surrounding mountain ranges makes this a well worth experience. We also pass by the remnants of the Tipritz. A large battleship sunk by british bombers during WWII. If weather permits we will somtimes head out to the archipelago of Sommarøy.

Eivind took us to an excellent location for the sea kayaking. The experience was relaxing with no sense of urgency to get back to Tromso which was great. Eivind was a great guide that really seemed to live the life he was showing us. A true expert.

Sea Kayaking with Eivind was amazing. He took us to Sommaroya where we were provided all the necessary gear to be successful on this adventure. We kayaked all around the islands. Everywhere around us the view of the surroundings were insanely good, and Eivind is extremely knowledgeable about the area, and always made us feel safe. Would highly recommend this experience!
