What you'll do

In this VIGOROUS walk, we will traverse the city from Montesanto to Posillipo; wear good shoes!

We meet at Dante Piazza then proceed to Scala Montesanto, one of the most functional and frequently used stairs in the city, made to connect Pignasecca, one of the most important markets, to the upper part of the city. We will walk at least 200 stairs. Breathe.

At the top we make our way to the Pedamentina (400 stairs),to Vomero connecting Centro Storico to two historical landmarks, amongst the most spectacular in the city: Museo Certosa and Castel Sant’ Elmo.

Along a main thoroughfare we walk to the steps of Petraio that leads down from Vomero to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the longest street in the city.

We make our way to Chaia, an affluent district of designer boutiques and tiny side streets. From Chaia we have a semi-short ramp to our next challenge, 100 steps connecting Chaia to via Tasso, the remainder being inclined, not stairs. When we reach the top, the western end of the Bay of Naples, we stop for lunch at a favourite Trattoria where we enjoy the freshest pasta or roasted vegetables, a delicious pause.

Refreshed, from via Manzoni we find marvellous views of the Gulf and the city below. There will be several points where you might want to take photos.

We re-enter the city near Mergellina Metro to continue on foot to the sea front, or train to our starting point.
Other things to note
This is vigorous walk uphill mostly, with MANY stairs. Please wear layers when dressing, be hydrated and eat a solid breakfast before departing. The entire walk should take about four hours max, depending on time for photos and including lunch.

I left my extended family, friends and Chicago, to become a travel blogger and Italian citizen, here where my family originates, Napoli. You will find me funny, animated, with the soul of a poet, the heart of a lion, with the curiosity of a nine-lived cat, and a walker. To discover, explore and be immersed in this forever-interesting culture is my thing. Here, you will be delighted by the beauty, filth, decay, glory, exceptional food and generous hearts of the Neapolitan people.

And I am a certified Neapolitan Pizzaiola, having spent one month at the famous Pizzeria La Notizia under the tutelage of award-winning pizzaiolo and owner Enzo Coccia. I can guide you to some of the best pizzerias In Napoli, off the tourist path. Or we can hunt down tiny churches, miniscule streets, famous staircases, street art or whatever brings you delight.
