What you'll do

See Howth through the eyes of a local. This experience will let you live, feel & breathe the real Ireland as thou you were a native. We start our journey through time, hearing tales of Viking and Norman invasions and learning about the history of the 700-year-old castle. Immerse yourself in Irish culture as we walk through the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey (Built in 1042) and visit sites known only to locals (Hidden Howth). There will be plenty of time for photographs, as you stroll through this picturesque fishing village and meet the local colony of seals and the huge variety of seabirds. Whether you have a passion for Irish history, or prefer listening to the myths and legends you have come to associate with ancient Ireland, there is something for everyone. After the Historic village walk, we will settle in the local Irish Pub (The Bloody Stream) for a complimentary glass of beer.

Or, If you fancy more of a challenge, check out my other experience 'Coastal Walk with a Local & his Dog' - which covers all of this experience followed by a scenic walk around the beautiful Cliffs of Howth and finishes in a local Irish pub for a complimentary pint of beer and of course - more stories!!

I am a resident of Howth, an Irish music aficionado, and Howth’s unofficial ambassador for your walk through history. I have a huge passion for Irish history and the myths and legends Ireland has amassed over the centuries. Living in Howth is a real pleasure, and I want to be able to share the deep history, inspiring views and all the hidden places that only locals know about, with visitors from all over the world.

Where you'll be

We will see the best views of Ireland's Eye Island, Howth Harbour Lighthouse, and Kings Footprints on the West Pier—followed by a walk through the higher parts of the village to see the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey and the Martello tower, the site of the first Howth Castle in the 12th Century. Then we'll visit one of the most picturesque beaches before walking the East Pier to see the spot of Howth Gun Running. The Bloody Stream for a Glass of Beer

Mark (and Missy) were very friendly and had great knowledge of the local area! While on the tour, you got a great sense that you were being taken around by a true local who was active in the community. Mark was very funny and a great storyteller! Would highly recommend booking any of his experiences as I have no doubt they are just as good!

Missy, I mean Mark!, was a fantastic tour guide and we had a wonderful time. Fantastic and interesting historical information and legends. Mark included lots of unusual facts that you don’t find in history books. Wonderfully comprehensive and we felt like we got the full experience of Howth! Great energy. Highly recommend.

Mark was a great host in the beautiful town of Howth. He provides some history and folklore along the way to the best views along the shore. Having Missy along made the experience even better.
