What you'll do

Just 5 minutes from the center of town you can move from the beach to the tropical rainforest. As easy as literally crossing the Street, doing this you will enter the Kekoldi indigenous territory.

You’ll have secure parking from where the hike starts. 5 minots in, you’ll begin diving into the rainforest. First crossing an old cacao farm. Then you’ll pass three humble huts of indigenous families. One hour in you'll be in the depth of the forest. Some trees with more than 200 years of safeguarding these territories. This jungle has species of plants and shrubs with healing properties. A wide variety of palms such as chonta and suita that provide materials for the construction of the traditional Bribri house.

About 2 hours in you’ll be approaching our great surprise. Descend to the KEKOLDI river. Follow the river, until we encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall. Here enjoy swimming and appreciating the tropical jungle at this secret and remote place.

After enjoying and delighting in this breathtaking place it’s time to head back to the start.

We will be walking in the jungle so you might get some mud on your shoes. And if it's raining we will still get mud so don't let a rainy day stop us. Total distance is 10km.

For some people the hick could be a challenge.

Where you'll be

Enter the Kekoldi indigenous territory, where you will also have the opportunity to live a truly authentic, natural and cultural experience.

We move from sea level to the mountains of Talamanca. Hiking deep into the jungle in search of a massive waterfall very few people know about its existence.

You'll encounter an imposing 45 meters high waterfall with a vertical water fall, in a dazzling scenario worthy for an Avatar or Jurasic Park movie.

This adventure was phenomenal. After reading the other reviews, we expected the hike to be difficult. It was, but darn was it worth it. If you want to be fully immersed in Costa Rican flora and fauna with a knowledgeable guide, this is the way to do it. Henry was friendly and thoughtful, a complete joy to hike with. The waterfall was breathtaking and refreshing. We saw lots of colorful dart frogs, insects, unusual plants, and a sloth up close! Expect to get muddy and to fall at least once. We lucked out with drier conditions. Lynch helped us get transportation home and we enjoyed our conversation with him as well.

The waterfall was beautiful, spectacular. However the description needs to warn that it is a 2-2:30 hike uphill and that you have to hike back for almost the same amount of time, some of that uphill as well. The trails were REALLY muddy and therefore slippery, and that was on a day that hadn’t rained. Since the tour goes rain or shine, I simply can’t imagine how difficult this would be if it were raining. I’m fairly in shape, as is my 21 year old daughter (I run at least 3 miles every day, and my daughter does weight/cardio workouts) and it was a serious challenge for us. We would’ve done it anyway, but would have liked to know what we were getting ourselves into. The woman ahead of us who was not as in shape kept falling in the mud. She was NOT happy that the hike was so much longer and more strenuous than described in the listing. We both felt there needs to be a more accurate description of this. If you are an experienced and in-shape hiker who LIKES intense hikes with spectacular destinations, then this is for you! We saw several poison dart frogs, a venomous snake, a sloth, heard tons of howler monkeys, etc.

It’s worth it - but wear the right shoes and don’t be out of shape. About 10 miles round trip - and parts are gnarly, almost vertical with roots to use as steps. Deep mud, lots of frogs and sloths. BRING EXTRA WATER - recommended trip! It’s exhausting and exhilarating
