What you'll do

You will have unique vacation photos after your photo shoot at Stoic Sages, a 4.6 acre private property devoted to pollinator conservation. First, we'll meet at a local coffee shop for a brief orientation over a morning beverage. Then you will follow me on a short drive next to the Blanco River, which we will cross to access Stoic Sages.

You'll enjoy exclusive access to photograph beautiful butterflies, other pollinators, native birds, and the occasional frog or Texas spiny lizard. You'll learn why pollinators are important, how to garden to attract them, and how to photograph them and other wildlife even in tricky situations like a windy day. We'll focus on macro and close up photography, but nature photography with any lens is covered.

Nature under a macro lens is astonishing and can be mind-blowing. I say, "oh wow" a lot!

You can take a break and enjoy the peace, quiet, and many shade trees. Feel free to rest with a cool drink on the screened in front porch.

At the conclusion of our photo shoot, I can recommend a public location if you want to take more photos on your own and also a good place for breakfast or lunch if you are hungry.

Hi ya'll! I'm a native Texan and a certified Texas Master Naturalist-Hays County. I'm also professional photographer with a passion for helping pollinators. You'll hear me say, "oh wow!" a lot when we're out in the field.

My photography has been exhibited at the Wimberley Valley Art League Gallery, Art on 12 Gallery, A Smith Gallery, the San Marcos Visitor Center, Lost Pines Art Center, and on permanent exhibit at Jacob’s Well Visitor Center and the Hotel Flora & Fauna mural wall.

Where you'll be

We'll explore Stoic Sages, a 4.5-acre habit nestled in oak trees with abundant Texas sages. The property is recognized as a Nature, Neighbor, and Night-Skies Friendly Lighting property, a Certified Butterfly Garden, a Certified Monarch Waystation (#10692), a Certified Wildlife Habitat, and a Xerces Society Pollinator Habitat.

We are on the butterfly flyway, which means lots of butterflies both native and migrators passing through.

    More tips

We will meet at a locally owned coffee shop where you can enjoy a nice warm beverage during a brief orientation, and then we'll drive to the property. If the weather does not cooperate with what pollinators need I will cancel and offer a more optimal time for the experience.
