What you'll do
Shinrin Yoku or the practice of forest bathing originates from Japan and simply means, immersing oneself in nature. Adhering to social distancing and safety at a pre-arranged meeting point I will give you a brief introduction before we head into the forest. The duration of the walk and practice is 2-3 hours and is designed to create a sense of calm and wellbeing and an opportunity to hug a tree and sit in nature. Depending on the walk we take you may experience chestnut trees, oaks, eucalyptus, pine. We go slow and pause along the way as I give a series of invitations to help you awaken the senses and enjoy all that is around you. At a hidden waterfall or stream, we will take time to experience the healing power of water, the sound, sight and feel of it. I will invite you to share what you are noticing (which is optional) silence is also welcome. Towards the end, there is time to quietly sit in the shade of the trees and just 'be' or you can journal or sketch if you wish. I will close the practice with a poem or offering to give back to nature. Before we part, we can share, ask questions or simply stay in silence.
Other things to note

I am a certified Forest Bathing Guide and Forest Therapy Practitioner (FTI) based in the Serra de Monchique for the past couple of years. It's a special place and I love sharing my 'insider' knowledge of the forest and mountains, the flora, fauna and I can help you access hidden trails and areas of natural beauty. Originally from the UK, I lived in Dubai for 10 years where I hosted a talk radio show on health, wellness, and food. I have travelled the world producing features and continue to write for publications on lifestyle and wellbeing. I bring my insights and love of nature, helping people to slow down, breathe in the health benefits and notice the beauty of the forest and landscape. My walks awaken the senses and are a wonderful way to unwind, break from technology and truly connect with the place and one's self

Where you'll be
There is a secret waterfall walk, the chestnut wood at the highest point of the Algarve or wander through a circle of oaks depending on the time of year and which walk we take.

We didn't really have any expectations, but the experience was really special, we were taken to a waterfall we would never have found, lots of opportunity to contemplate and reflect in a really calming environment, and the fresh mint tea and honey was a nice touch!
