Immersion in the real Colombia

Adventure hosted by Andrés

2 days

What you'll do

This experience is carefully designed for nature lovers, adventure seekers and conscious travelers who want to immerse themselves in the real Colombia. We will travel 2.5 hours from Medellín to a river called El Melcocho. It is located in a municipality called Cocorná, an area that was for years impossible to visit due to its violence. Somehow this same violence protected a beautiful jungle crossed by a crystal water river.

We will:
* Hike through the jungle to an incredible waterfall.
* Take a bath in the river.
* Meet a local family and have dinner with them.
* Stay at a beautiful bamboo cabin made by the same family.
* Learn about the process of cacao that grows in the area.

After traveling for a while I realized the potential my city had. I started to study a lot and have been working as a tour guide for over a year now with more than 3 companies and now I'm starting my own called Nomad. I just finished a Technology on tourism guidance to become a professional on the field and I have assisted to 3 boot camps to learn how to develop touristic experiences. I'm convinced that sustainable tourism can make Colombia a better place. I know I can help bring progress to communities I visit with my guests and that benefit can be for both sides.

This experience was the highlight of my trip to Colombia. This is one of the most authentic experiences I have been a part of. Arriving to the cabin is an experience in its self. To get there you have to drive off road for some time. Once you do arrive you will be met with mules to continue the journey through some valleys and canyons . The mules are very relaxed and you do not need any experience as they know the route. Once you arrive to the cabin all you can see and hear is nature all around you from the rushing rivers to birds chirping this place is truly heaven on earth. The food was great and all locally sourced. The cabin is clean and spacious with normal amenities of a shower and bathroom. As you venture around you can choose to swim in the river or sunbathe on large rocks in the middle of the water. After swimming and lunch I decided to relax in a comfortable hammock and read a book. The best part is their are no tourist to be seen you will be one of the only people there. Might encounter some locals but all were very friendly. Andres the guide was very helpful through out the stay in making sure all my needs were met, I had some dietary restrictions and he was very accommodating. Andres is always willing to answer any questions and always helpful. my only recommendation is to buy some cheap rubber boots as some of the walking trails can be muddy. If you are looking for an out of this world and a once in a lifetime experience this is the trip for you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
