What you'll do

You'll be welcomed into my Chicago apartment with amazing views of the city and lake and acquainted with me over a glass of Georgian wine and appetizers. If you want to learn about a new culture, this is a great place to do it. I'll give you some background about Georgia and the dishes that we'll be cooking--khachapuri (cheese bread), shkmeruli (chicken cooked in milk and garlic), and salati (salad) and then we'll get to work in the kitchen! I'll talk you through all of the recipes and, after we've cooked the meal together, we'll taste everything and you'll have plenty of time to ask questions. I am fortunate to have a wealth of knowledge about a really fascinating country that not many people have had the opportunity to travel to. I won't send you home empty-handed--there will be handouts with the recipes and instructions so you can make these delicious Georgian dishes for your friends and family at home!

Emily

I've felt happiest in the kitchen ever since I can remember. I grew up experimenting with my own recipes for my family--some of them were out of this world, while others were total misses. But, no matter what I placed in front of them, they ate it and sang high praises, which gave me the confidence needed to become a really good home cook. In 2010 I moved to the country of Georgia, where my love of cooking and food culture really took off. In Georgia I learned that it's not only about the food, but it's also about the experience of making and eating the food. I sat at the table in the kitchen day after day while my Georgian host mom, Nunu, made all sorts of traditional Georgian dishes--khachapuri, shkmeruli, and salati. I would love to share the skills I learned with you in my kitchen in Chicago!
