What you'll do

Want to experience a day of Buddhist culture and temple-hopping in Chiang Mai? We know just what to do!

Come with me, a Chiang Mai local expert for a half-day Buddhist-themed experience you won't find anywhere else!

*Here's what we'll do from top to bottom*

I'll pick you up from your hotel in Chiang Mai area.

1.) Start off your morning with alms offering and giving food to local Buddhist monks. We believe that offering food to monks every morning will bring us good karma :)
2.) Visit Doi Suthep Temple, Chiang Mai's most famous landmark located on the hills overlooking the city view. Here, you can see the Golden Pagoda decorated in Lanna style.
3.) Then, we'll head to the "hidden temple" in the forest of Chiang Mai. This temple is called Wat Pha Lat, and it's where Buddhist monks come to meditate away from the city.
4.) Tour over to Wat Umong or literally, "Tunnel Temple". This temple is 700 years old and is one of the oldest in Chiang Mai.
5.) Now, we're at the oldest and also the largest temple in Chiang Mai, Wat Chiang Man.
6.) Visit Wat Phra Singh, Chiang Mai's second-most venerated temple.
7.) Visit the last temple at Wat Chedi Luang, a temple that survived an earthquake in the past.

*We'll then have a local Thai-style lunch, and head back to your hotel afterwards!*

Yes, this is all in half a day, so if you want to do some temple-hopping with me, just let me know!

Sa-Was-Dee-Ka (Hello! in Thai). I’m Emma, working with my lovely company called TakeMeTour. My personal goal is to host travelers from around the world with the best authentic experience in Thailand.

My best co-host (Minty) will take you on this trip. She loves exploring the city and Chiang Mai has so many temples such as Wat Pha Lat, Doi Suthep Temple, Wat Chiang Man, and Wat Umong that are significant for the local Buddhists. She's also a Buddhist herself, and a lover of Chiang Mai's history, so she would love to open your eyes and ears! Also, will show you how locals take part in alms offering and food giving to the Buddhist monks every morning.

We're always eager to show travelers from all over the world a good time. We're sure you will get more unique experience from us than what’s recommended in the guidebooks!

Where you'll be

We'll visit 7 temples in Chiang Mai in half a day, along with giving alms and food to the Buddhist monks in the morning. We'll visit a hidden temple in a forest, a golden Lanna-style pagoda, a "tunnel temple", Chiang Mai's oldest and biggest temple, Chiang Mai's second most important temple, and lastly, a temple that once survived an earthquake from the past.

The tour was great, especially the sunrise from mount Doi Suthep early in the morning. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We’re able to see the various temples early without too many tourist and learn a whole lot of new things about Thailand and still have the rest of the day after the tour finished to do whatever, so great scheduling.

Great tour value for the price. We were satisfied with the number of temples we saw and information we received. While we did see a lot, it felt like the tour moved at our own paces because there were only 4 of us. Ending it all with a great meal before getting dropped off at our hotel was awesome! While this is only a half day it is jam packed and you’ll be ready to relax after.

A great experience! She had a lot to tell us about each temple and was more than happy to accommodate any needs/requests we had. We got to stop for coffee and she even found us a vegan restaurant to eat at for lunch and ordered something we could share. Very thoughtful and passionate. I would definitely recommend this tour!

It was a lovely tour of the temples. One of our favourite parts was first thing in the morning going to offer food to the monks 😀 our guide explained the traditions of food offerings and allowed us to participate traditionally. Our guide shared traditional stories and explained the history of each temple as we went through. There's an opportunity to chat with the monks also, however we got a little shy and didn't take up that offer. But we totally regret it so definitely do it! Shy or not. Our guide was a little quiet which made it hard to really connect however we appreciated it to some extent because we were able to enjoy the views of the drive and the temples together as a couple in our own space. Complete bonus is that our guide was enthusiastic about taking pictures for us and took some amazing photos! Our guide was able to answer most of my questions and then after the temples we had a lovely lunch in old City. Our guide was prompt in timing- in fact arrived a little earlier then planned and was super friendly upon approach. Temples entries and lunch was paid for. At the end of the tour, our guide offered to either get dropped off at hotel or somewhere else which was nice as we could have kept the day going elsewhere. Pretty easy to understand our guides English also :) I do recommend this tour if you are genuine about the culture and learnings of the temples and don't mind having a quiet ride along the way :)
