What you'll do

You will be welcomed into my kitchen to learn to bake Busy Woman’s Crusty Artisan Breads. We will mix up a batch of yeast dough sufficient to prepare four loaves of bread. No kneading! This dough once prepared can rise through a slow fermentation in the refrigerator and be used for up to 14 days. For our day of baking we will be using the dough that I have previously prepared and has already been rising in the refrigerator. We will then simply cut off a portion of the dough, shape it, let it rise, and then bake it in an oven with steam. No kneading! Each participant will prepare, shape, and bake their own loaf of bread to take home with them at the end of the class. You will be surprised at how simple it is and how little hands-on time is required to prepare fresh crusty warm delicious artisan bread for your family!

My family has been in the Carolinas since 1741. I come from a long line of good Southern cooks. I remember my grandparents’ farm where they grew everything that they needed except for salt and coffee. The main meal of the day was Dinner which was served at noon for the hungry men working the farm. Supper was served at night and was a lighter meal. I gained my cooking skills from watching and helping my mother, grandmother, and aunts prepare family meals. I am an adventurous cook … have made yogurt at home, created my own sourdough starter, bake cornbread and yeast breads, brew kombucha, and make my own wines. My friends tell me that I am a good teacher… Patient, kind, and explain things well. I would love to have the opportunity to share with you how to bake simple and easy Crusty Artisan Breads at home!
