What you'll do

Behold the stunning beauty of the petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua that were formed thousands of years ago by the runoff of calcium carbonated water.

This is the perfect way to visit Hierve el Agua, hike around the waterfalls and relax WITHOUT the addition of UNNECESSARY stops.

We'll meet in downtown Oaxaca. Then, we´ll begin our journey to Hierve el Agua (1:30 hr. drive [68 km]).

Once we arrive, we´ll start the hike to the petrified waterfalls, go to the most amazing viewpoints, walk down to the base to see them from below and appreciate its stunning beauty. We´ll continue the hike and come back up to spend some time swimming and relaxing in the natural pools. We´ll spend about 2:30 hours here.

We´ll finish off with a delicious lunch at one of the local food vendors in the site.

After lunch, we´ll drive back to Oaxaca.

*ALL entry fees included.

I'm passionate for the outdoors. I love hiking and enjoy meeting new people while promoting sustainable ecotourism in Oaxaca. I love taking people on this trip because it is a great way to see the mountains and nature, and enjoy the amazing views in Oaxaca. My goal is to provide you with an unforgettable experience. I would love to share this adventure with you.

I was born and raised in Oaxaca. I have lived abroad (in the USA) during my college years and I have also traveled to several countries. On my travels, I have experienced the need of local experts who can show you those "hidden gems", the sites that are off the beaten path in unique ways.

Hierve el Agua
Unique place where you can walk on impressive petrified waterfalls, formed thousands of years ago by the runoff of carbonated water. From the springs, the water descends by rugged cliffs that are more than 50 meters high.

Ivan planned a wonderful trip to Hierve el Agua for us. We arrived before the afternoon crowds and were able to relax and enjoy hiking trails and stunning views. Ivan provided us with information on the plants and natural elements we saw along the way as well as the history of the falls. After the hike we were able to enjoy the pools and had fresh coconut water and fruit before our ride back to the city. It was a great morning and the perfect way to experience Hierve el Agua.

Hierve el Agua is such a gorgeous and unique location. The petrified waterfalls are like nothing else on earth and the Zapotec history behind the canals and use of the natural springs is truly inspirational. Ivan is a great host. He is fully bilingual, incredibly knowledgeable and very flexible. We were incredibly grateful to be able to see Hierve el Agua in a half day excursion (as opposed to a 10+ hour long day out). We arrived early and left just as the area became overrun with visitors. He's helpful during the hike down, and back up and his flexibility with us and our various desires and needs was very much appreciated.

You want to see Hierve el Agua (and you should) but don't want to waste your time with the countless stops that other tour providers insist upon, thus taking up your whole day? You want to spend some actual quality time at this place, hiking around a bit, taking photos, and going for a swim? You want to ride in a comfortable car and be guided about by a genuinely smart and experienced dude? Then look no further. Ivan is your man. This experience is exactly as advertised: half a day at Hierva el Agua, giving you an unforgettable experience and not taking up your whole day. And Ivan is fantastic. He knows his stuff, is passionate about Oaxaca generally, and is an all around great guy. So go with him to Hierve el Agua, come back to Oaxaca in time to hit some art galleries, walk through the market, and drink a mezcal before picking out your dinner spot.

100% would recommend! Ivan's experience makes sure you get to see the Hierve el Agua before all the tour coaches start arriving. He was really friendly and knowledgeable and told some great stories along the way. When you get to the waterfall, you get to hike around it, seeing it from the top and the bottom. Highlight of our trip to Oaxaca!

Ivan was a great tour guide & I would highly recommend his tour. We went straight to the waterfall & had a great time. For us it was better than having to stop at other stops & taking our whole day. Ivan is really knowledgeable about the culture & history of the land. It was a great experience.
