I grew up (my childhood) in a farm located in the cloud forest. Since 2001, I started to work in tourism then I studied tourism, got my credentials and ready to work. My last 9 years working together with local people from the northwestern part from Quito city and discovering a great way of living naturally.
I would love to share with you the nature bounties !

Not your run of the mill tour. We saw hummingbirds up close, we saw toucans and other bird species within ten feet of our balcony. The fresh fruits were delicious and so different! Loved this whole experience. Well worth the price.

What a magical experience! We met early in the morning at the Hilton Colon hotel. The clerks working the front desk will let you in and there is a hotel restaurant to catch a coffee (breakfast was expensive, 25 dollars so I opted out). Be sure to bring some Dramamine or altitude sickness medicine if you are fresh off a plane - the trip goes around mountains and is a bit zig-zaggy. Richard stopped at a pharmacy with me to get some medicine, which was nice. Pack some snacks since you won't eat until lunch time. The sanctuary you will visit is a finca owned by a cute and highly knowledgeable couple (Erika and Jonathan). We walked through a rain forest, surrounded by orchids, birds, mushrooms, and tropical plants. We walked over a bamboo bridge, saw some gorgeous cascading waterfalls, and had the opportunity to do a Tarzan jungle swing over the water. Maybe you want to wear a swimsuit if you want to take a quick dip into the natural pool. I think we missed the tropical fruit tasting experience because the walk took longer than anticipated (probably my fault since I wanted to observe every mushroom we found). We stopped at a cute place for lunch where they served me a very healthy and beautiful vegan meal. Know that you will need to pay for your own lunch (6 dollars) and also the entry fee to the finca (7 dollars), which I wasn't expecting. We didn't do a fruit tasting (again, probably due to my mushroom photography), so I am guessing future guests will be able to experience this part of the package. Richard speaks English very well, and I was able to practice my Spanish with him (he was patient with me - this was so much more than an exploration of Ecuadorian birds - you will learn about and see all sorts of regional culture if you wish). Overall, this was a great full-day experience where you can truly immerse yourself in nature with people who care deeply about preserving the natural places of Ecuador.
