What you'll do

Starting outside the Eagle and child pub I'll give you brief outline of the history of the city and the university. I'll then tell you about two old friends, C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien, who regularly met in the pub. We'll then move onto Broad Street where you'll see the old adversaries Bailliol and Trinity Colleges, and hear stories about Bloody Mary, the Oxford Martyrs and a famous tortoise race. Then to The Museum of the History of Science, The Sheldonian Theatre and the Duke Humphries Library, where I'll tell you of Einstein, Marconi, and the English Civil War. Then onto the Bridge of Sighs followed by the Bodleian Library and Divinity School which has been the location for films like Harry Potter and Mary Queen of Scots, in which I played a small but dramatic role. After passing through the doorway to Narnia we'll move into the lower part of the city to the magnificent Christchurch College with stories of Lewis Carroll and the real life Alice, Henry VIII and a Don who liked to eat all kinds of animals. Then past the site of Britain's first balloon flight onto the arguably the oldest of Oxford's colleges, Merton College and a rather amusing story of university stupidity. We'll then end the tour at the oldest pub in Oxford, the Bear adorned with over 4000 ties, where, if you so wish, you may join me for a drink and a chat.

I am a local actor, writer and teacher with a comprehensive knowledge of Oxford's culture and history. I can tell you first-hand how exciting and intriguing a city Oxford is, having worked and played here for over ten years. I will even tell you a little about the nearby town in which I live - Abingdon, which is the oldest town in Britain, having been inhabited since the iron age. My aim is to give you an unforgettable experience of Oxford and its historical sites, employing my acting skills to introduce you to many of its historical characters, some of whom attended the University and some of whom changed history. This will be a tour you won't easily forget.
