What you'll do

Fancy a short getaway to reconnect with nature in the heart of the KL City?

Let me take you on a morning stroll through a 66-acre secondary forest of native rainforest species in delightful surroundings.

Explore 2 kilometers of undulating trails within an urban forest park. Along the way, I will show you the symbiotic relationship between the macaranga tree & ants, and the unique 'liana highways' used by native wildlife to move about. There will be lots to see, hear, feel and be at one with nature. I will help you to spot plants and fruits used as ingredients for local dishes such as the sugar palm fruit (atapchi) - a jelly in a local dessert and the aromatic betel leaf (kadok) used in nyonya cooking.

The guided nature walk is fun, educational and suitable for all age groups. The well maintained trails are wide, with gentle slopes and earth paths that winds through a swamp and stream. Other highlights include interesting informative fact boards, an observation tower and rest stops.

Our next stop will be to the world's tallest bronze freestanding sculpture grouping, at a nearby complex. In addition to the monument, other components are the pavilion, war memorial, fountains and surrounding gardens.

After the morning workout, we end our adventure with a well-deserved tea-break and hawker style local food.
Other things to note
The network of trails are easy to hike, with gentle slopes for all to enjoy nature, including families and newbies. Best of all, no leeches. Instead, there are changing rooms, public toilets and surau; water dispenser to refill water bottles.

I am passionate about back-to-nature pursuits, lacing up my hiking boots to check out urban jungles around Kuala Lumpur. Along the way, I learn about the symbiotic relationship between plants species and native wildlife that facilitates coexistence in the wilderness. The joy of discovering & getting 'lost' in beautiful places, is an experience I love sharing, both personally and via a hiking column in a local daily.

I summited Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia twice, and have trekked to Everest Base Camp (EBC) & Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) in Nepal.
