What you'll do

Welcome to Charleston, well known as a drinking city with a slight history problem! With this in mind guests will meet at the initial bar location where some complimentary appetizers will be served and guests will have the opportunity to purchase some local craft beer or cocktails while the guides (Adam or Bryan) go over a brief personal introduction and history of the City of Charleston. From there guests will walk to predetermined historic sites around the French Quarter including one of the oldest homes in Charleston. Brief stories and accurate historical insight from a licensed guide will cover a period stemming from the early colonial days all the way through World War II including topics on the revolutionary/civil war, pirate attacks, and of course alcohol in this famous city. This is not a typical "sit there and shut up tour" but rather an opportunity to engage with your licensed guide! Guests will be able to seek a brief respite at the next dive bar location for another small complimentary appetizer and a particular focus will be given to the period of prohibition in Charleston as a city rife with bootleggers, speakeasies, and "Blind Tigers." The tour will finish at a stunningly beautiful local park in close proximity to other area bars and restaurants since many guests just don't want the history and hops tour to end!

Captain Bryan is a 7th generation Charlestonian of Huguenot Heritage. A people that would have been among the first settlers of this historic city. As a charter captain, licensed tour guide, public servant (historic commission), and former senior analyst; Captain Bryan is the perfect guide with which to explore the city.

Adam Moore lives just over the bridge on James Island with his wife and son. In 2015 he quit a management job and transitioned back to his roots as a history major by becoming a licensed guide. As a veteran tour guide, he has met guests from all around the world and believes giving tours is both an honor and a pleasure.

Both of these guides have a thirst for not only history but also local watering holes which correlates to a unique experience for guests to the area. Come join Adam or Bryan and "live the local life."

Me and my mom had a great time! Adam was our guide. He was knowledgeable and had some great stories! We saw and covered a lot for the length of time of the tour, good bars and good snacks too! Not too much walking either if that’s a deterrent when looking up tours. We would gladly go again!

Brian was a great tour guide. He shared some really interesting historical facts that I was not made aware of until participating in his tour. The day was very enjoyable and his information kept my attention throughout the entire experience. Highly recommended.

We were able to have Bryan all to ourselves which made for a very personalized and in-depth tour. We enjoyed what we learned and what Bryan could add from his personal life experiences.

My guy Bryan was an incredible tour guide. Wife & I got lucky to get him to ourselves on a early weekday. We typically do tours each city we visit and so far he was the best. Everything talked about and shown felt like a nice treat. He showed a deep sense of experience as a tour guide & knowledgeable of Charlestons history. It literally was a good way to end our last night in Charleston...he gets a perfect score from us.

We were lucky enough to get both Capt Bryan and Adam on this experience and I cannot express how impressed we were with the historical insight to the city of Charleston and all the notable events these two guides discussed. Both even had to pass a test to receive a tour guide license and the knowledge they present backs that up. I will say they did not skimp over some of the harsher history that occurred in Charleston but balanced it out with many intriguing stories and that is what made the difference for me, if I could give them 10 stars i would. The appetizers were the perfect snack and the local beer selections available to buy were amazing (try the Westbrook white tai). Both guides stayed an extra 15 min to answer some questions I had and provided a list of recommendations afterwords. If you have Adam or Captain Bryan as he goes by just know you have a well planned and thought out experience different from most tours in Charleston! I cannot wait to try another experience with Adam or the “Captain” when I return, thanks so much for this one of a kind tour and easily the best one I had while in Charleston!!!

Adam and captain Bryan we’re both great tour guides! Very friendly and knowledgeable and we appreciated the breadth of their tour- we got broad history as well as some specific stories about the region and characters. The bars were great and they were knowledgeable about the local beer selections. We also appreciated that they didn’t shy away from the darker aspects of the area’s history, namely the undeniable fact that the area was built on the backs of slave labor. Highly recommend.
