What you'll do

It is 9 in the morning and we reach Monte Poro to visit a family of shepherds. The companies are small, family-run, but they produce one of the best cheeses of Southern Italy: pecorino del Poro. My shepherd friends prepare breakfast with ricotta, pecorino cheese, nduja (another renowned product), olives, bread and red wine. After this rich breakfast, we go to visit a local oil mill, very modern in the olive milling machines, all of the latest generation, but very ancient in the family vocation: it is the fourth generation that deals with producing excellent extra virgin olive oil. During a walk in contact with ancient trees, Giovanni reveals the secrets to obtain an excellent oil. We now visit the oil mill, where the various steps, from harvesting to pressing, are illustrated and told to us. Finally, we taste the oil on hot bread. Our third stop is a winery of excellence, where we admire the vineyards lying on the Nicotera hills overlooking the sea. The wine we taste is obtained from an autochthonous Calabrian grape: the canine magliocco. We continue to the historic center of Nicotera where you can enjoy a superb view of the Gulf of Gioia and the Strait of Messina: it is the ideal place to enjoy cremolata, a special granita made with wild strawberries, strictly handmade.
Other things to note
My routes are unique experiences because they always take place with very few participants, like a trip with friends, and this allows me to establish a personal relationship with each visitor, and they take place in non-tourist places, mostly known only by the locals .

For 5 years I have been working for the enhancement and use of the cultural heritage of Calabria and to remove monuments and sites that need to be protected and recovered by local institutions from abandonment. For this reason I have traveled far and wide, especially in my geographical area of reference, the promontory of Poro, to reveal little-known or unknown beauties to mass tourism, looking for small treasure chests that are the custodians of great treasures to be saved. From this, the itineraries were born, unique because they are the result of my discoveries and the contacts I have made over time with the locals, in search of the excellence of the area to be known and valued. My tours include the participation of very few travelers (max 4), just to keep the quality of the experience high.

*AMAZING* Our afternoon with Marianna could only be described by that one word above. She is sincerely open, passionate, and knowledgeable about her town and its surroundings, within minutes we felt like we were long-lost family and not a couple of tourists. Marianna created a wonderful day full of local delicacies and wine that included so many thoughtful touches we could not get over how special it all felt. Marianna has deep roots in the community, and it is through these connections she has you're able to see a side of Tropea that you would never find in any guidebook, blog or travel video. If you want the real deal, this is the tour for you. We've already recommended her to all our friends, and even made plans to come back- before we even finished the tour! We can't say enough good things about the tour, but again, in one word: *AMAZING*!!
