What you'll do

We will pick you up at your location (hotel or private house) at 8:00 am, then we'll take a 50 minutes road trip (35 km) to Playa El Salado (El Salado beach). On our way there, we'll get to know each other better and information about the sites we're passing through will be given to you, so you get to know the surrounding areas. Once there, we will take the equipment and go to the beach. Prior diving into the sea, we'll explain the intinerary and the main safety rules inside the water. Then, while snorkeling you'll get to know the marine ecosystem, how the different species coexist and interact with each other. Afterwards, we'll teach you about Cuban Coral Reefs; the main species identified and the problems they face nowadays as well as the ways to solve them (as a way of promoting marine conservation through a better understanding of this ecosystem) At the end, we will have a tasty lunch so you could have the opportunity to try out some Cuban traditional food before taking our way back.
Other things to note
Transport is NOT INCLUDED in the initial fee. The taxi will cost $60 extra. If you travel with several people would be more economical because you can divide the payment amongst yourselves. Ex. 1 person = $60, 2 people = $30 each, 3 people = $20 each...

I was born in Havana. I love adventure and the 'salty life', so I'm all passionate about all related to the sea and marine life; and I enjoy sharing this passion with others, I'm a SNSI advanced, nitrox, and rescue scuba-diver, so I have experice in sea water activities and security norms. I'm Biologist too, thus I can teach you all I've learned about the main Caribbean Reef Species and how to protect them. Ian, my co-host, was also born in Havana. Since the age of eight he started practicing water activities due to doctor orders to strengthen the spine muscles. Today, both of these (Medicine and Swiming) have become an intimate part of his life. He recently gained the degree of Doctor in Medicine and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver / Enriched Air Diving. He's very pasionate about these aspects and it brings him joy showing them to others.

Where you'll be

When it comes to Cuban beach zones, Playa El Salado figures amongst the most relevant ones, located in Baracoa (Artemisa), at the western side of Cuba, aprox. 30 km from Havana. It possesses an admirable coral reef with excelent conditios for snorkeling and scuba-diving. It took its name due to the unsual saltiness of its waters, being probably one of the most salty ones due to natural conditions of the zone.

It was pleasure and honor to meet Ian and Sandra. Two young professionals with endless love for the ocean. Sandra in a marine biologist and she will tell you all about implements of global warming and environmental effect of coral reefs. We snorkeled, I learned all I could with the time giving about life of a coral reef, we talked about many things and I left impressed and grateful for the time spent and thoughts shared. I truly wish these Sandra and Ian all the best in their life journey. World needs young people like that. And you will get to take home some beautiful underwater pictures!
