Playa Minas constitutes one the most important nesting sites in Costa Rica. Large numbers of turtles arrive from October until March and usually at night. For this tour you will be picked up at the hotel and taken to Playa Las Minas where turtles are nesting. You will be able to see the black turtles and if you are lucky there will also be some of the very rare leatherback turtles. The beautiful scene of the stars, the moon and the ocean makes the perfect set-up for this incredible experience with nature. In addition the guides will provide infra red light, so that you will be able to clearly see the turtles and take your own pictures. Expect some waiting time and be prepared to sit on the sand. To make sure that you see the turtles it is sometime necessary to take a hike to a close by beach.

Great experience up close with sea turtle looking to lay her eggs, although she didn’t for reasons only she knows. Leo and his team were great!

Leo and his guides were fantastic! He was very communicative and responded quickly to all messages in advance of the tour. He was also accommodating regarding finding a place where I could meet the group since I was staying outside of Tamarindo. It’s about a 30-40 minute ride from Tamarindo, about half of which is on a bumpy, unpaved road so if you get motion sick be sure to take some medicine before you leave! Unfortunately we were only able to see one turtle and she was not a fan of the area she chose so she turned tail and headed back to the sea for a couple more hours. We had a lot of time to take pictures of her as she headed toward the water. My only complaint had nothing to do with the guides, more “ugly” tourists. Multiple people wouldn’t listen to instructions meant to keep the turtles safe from physical and psychological harm, taking flash photos, talking while the guides were talking, etc. I think that Leo did his best handling the situation so I can’t really ask for more. Thanks also for a wonderful experience!

This was an amazing experience. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable and did their utmost to give us all the information they possessed. Everyone was friendly and concerned about the environment and our experience as a whole.

This was a chance of a lifetime to experience in person what very, very few people have or will. The staff was knowlegable, and taught is so much about the turtles, the local ecosystem and extended it to teaching about how it is connected to the rest of the planet. We saw 4 turtles and one laid about 80 eggs. The staff was respectful of the natural process of the animals. We even stayed a little longer for the egg laying. We had been preparing to leave the beach when that last last tortuga came up on the beach. It was like being in a National Geographic documentary. Thank you Leo, Edgar and staff.
