What you'll do

An Evening stroll through the forgotten streets of Colombo- the commercial capital of the country. Amidst the skyscrapers and upcoming international branded projects, there is still undiscovered parts of Colombo which remain very rich in history. Explore the city’s overlooked fort area, hustling markets of Pettah and its bustling streets alongside some of the countries oldest buildings where they still remain intact. This is a great tour for those with a keen interest in history, culture, architecture and photography.

The walk begins from a historical area near the fort and will cover some of the oldest buildings in the city, with visits to ancient churches and central landmarks in the city. Off course the best part remains last, where you will top it off with a chilled refreshment at one of the only remaining dodgy bars in Colombo.
Other things to note
Try to dress in the most comfortable clothing as possible. Its a walking tour so make sure to bring your sun block and hat along. Since there wont be any temple visits shorts and skinnies are more than welcome. Most of all come in a cheerful spirit to discover the Forgotten Areas of the city.

Im the founder of an experience based venture called " Kochi Miris" that specializes in curated travel experiences in Sri Lanka. Born and bred in Colombo, I began developing this walk in the city to share my passion for developing authentic and soulful experiences. Eventhough the city is developing fast, there is a soft spot in me for the overlooked forgotten parts of the city which still remain very much historical. This is by far one of my favorite experiences in Colombo! Dilshan picked me up from my hotel in his large truck (I forgot the model and name) that I absolutely loved. I mean I LOVED his vehicle! We immediately started talking and I felt super comfortable and glad that I had selected the experience. It happened to be a holiday weekend so many places were closed but I was rewarded with having these sights and the streets all to myself. The city was practically empty. He provided me with information and a beer at the end in a very old hotel overlooking the harbor. Since we got along well we continued to hangout for a bit. Super easygoing guy! From the information, I learned I was able to gain perspective on Colombo and I planned my next day adventure.

Dilshan knows all kinds of fascinating corners of the city that I could never have found on my own. He gave clear explanations, and I really enjoyed talking with him. I highly recommend this tour.

Dilshan was a lovely young man. We met at the Dutch hospital because of road closures for the independence day celebrations. From there we walked around Pettah and saw many of the old colonial buildings, some in good repair, some not so. Pettah is an amazing place and heaving with Tuktuks and people but a great experience. We went inside the Cargill building and the old Town Hall which afforded a great view of the bustling streets below. We finished off the tour by having a drink in the bar at the top of the GOH then were taken by TukTuk back to our hotel. Great value little tour seeing some of the lesser travelled streets by tourists.

I’m an expat living in Colombo, I decided to do the tour as I felt like, even though I live here, I didn’t really know the city so well and the idea of ‘Forgotten’ areas interested me – really pleased that I did! After picking me up in an old style jeep free of charge at my apartment, Dilshan proceeded to take me to central Colombo to start the tour. Dilshan is a very personable and extremely knowledgeable guide, the tour was super informative and we visited a number of destinations that I had no idea existed in the city. I highly recommend this tour to anyone staying in the city wishing to experience a unique tour of Colombo’s hidden history.

Pros:The walk was Ok and Dishan was punctual and professional. However, Dishan ended the tour earlier than scheduled (at 11am rather than time scheduled( 12:30pm) because (he said) I didn't take lots of photos as most do (?). I would think he would know other places to go for people who don't spend hours taking photos?
