What you'll do

Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary.

We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people).

Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species.

Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots.
Other things to note:
Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise.

While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.

I grew up on the Big Island and have always been surrounded by lush trees, the captivating ocean, and tropical animals that give Hawaii an energy that can’t be replaced.

Our family started noticing a large amount of parrots who outlived their owners (parrots can live up to 100 years)! There was no place for them to call home, so we decided to build one.

Since then, my family has rescued parrots globally for the last 18 years.

This is my first time visiting the sanctuary, but my parents had been here before. It was well-worth it! Loved meeting Gerald and his parents and of course all the parrots. It was clear that this family deeply cares about the parrots and takes excellent care of them. I will definitely be back the next time I’m on the island.

A MUST-DO on big island! Our group of five enjoyed the experience so much, that we all agree that it's gonna become our must-do if we come to big island again! I have never seen so much colorful birdies all together before. Plus Gerald is the most knowledgeable and kind person, and such a great story teller! We got to learn not only the breeds, habit and appearance, but also stories of each birds. We also learned stories about these birdies and their humen, some times heartbroken, others sparked a loud "Awww" in our group. The two hour experience has a very positive, energetic and healing vibe, despite birdies squawking. ( what are you expecting? they are big birdies! Birds squaw!) We also got to socialize with some birdies a little bit and that's extremely exciting! The place is also gorgeous! with green plants and vivid flowers everywhere! As well as a gorgeous view of the ocean! HIGHLY RECOMMEND to add this to your big island itinerary! No matter you are the first time big island visitor, or 100 time ones.

If you’re even remotely considering this, just go on and book it already! A) Parrots are really pretty! B) You’re supporting an incredibly worthy cause with your admission cost. C) You get to pet parrots! We really had a great time learning about each one of the pretty birds they have, how they came to be, and the love, care and service they provide to these parrots who need them!

We had an amazing time with Gerald, learning about all the different parrots plus their individual stories. We loved getting to hold and pet a few of the birds, especially Kissy. Would definitely go back the next time we are on the Big Island. This is such a great cause to support!

We loved our visit and are happy to have supported this organization. We got to hold and interact with the birds more than we expected and it was really fun and interesting getting to hear about their personalities. Seems like a lovely place for the birds to live.
