What you'll do

Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary.

We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people).

Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species.

Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots.
Other things to note
Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to three rescue dogs and a tortoise.

I grew up on the Big Island and have always been surrounded by lush trees, the captivating ocean, and tropical animals that give Hawaii an energy that can’t be replaced.

Our family started noticing a large amount of parrots who outlived their owners (parrots can live up to 100 years)! There was no place for them to call home, so we decided to build one.

Since then, my family has rescued parrots globally for the last 18 years.

This was a highly informative and fun experience. So many different parrots. We were taken inside some of the cages and got to experience up close and personal interaction with some of the birds. The experience was worth twice the money and if anyone ever calls me a “bird brain” again I will consider it a compliment.

The best part of our vacation- highly recommend! Gerald was so kind and informative and the birds were incredible. It didn’t feel like 2 hours whatsoever. The view is also perfect!

A lovely way to get out of the afternoon sun, see how a family-run rescue center works, and meet some gorgeous and fascinating well-cared for birds. My husband and I liked it as much as the kids!

We are bird lovers and weren’t sure what to expect of this experience. Our expectations were exceeded in every way. From the warm welcome, through the informative and hands-on tour, to the importance of the work- we will strongly recommend this to our on-island neighbors and guests. Mahalo Gerald!

The birds were loud and beautiful. The host’s dedication and affection for each and every bird was inspiring. We enjoyed learning about the history of each bird and interacting with quite a few of them. If you or anyone you know is contemplating adopting one of these incredible long-living intelligent creatures, please spend a few hours here first.
