What you'll do

Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary.

We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people).

Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species.

Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots.
Other things to note
Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to three rescue dogs and a tortoise.

I grew up on the Big Island and have always been surrounded by lush trees, the captivating ocean, and tropical animals that give Hawaii an energy that can’t be replaced.

Our family started noticing a large amount of parrots who outlived their owners (parrots can live up to 100 years)! There was no place for them to call home, so we decided to build one.

Since then, my family has rescued parrots globally for the last 18 years.

Gerald is doing God’s work, protecting and nurturing these beautiful birds. So many parrots to see, and many interesting stories about each. We learned a great deal, and look forward to supporting the sanctuary in the future. This experience is well-worth the investment for animal (bird) and nature lovers. The place is also a piece of magical rural, unspoiled Hawaii! We will visit again! :)

We had so much fun at the Parrot Sanctuary. The birds were all very well loved and taken care of and it was great to learn about them and interact with them.

What a fantastic opportunity to learn about and meet a wide variety of parrots and support a worthy cause at the same time! The location is beautiful too! Gerald has an incredible depth of knowledge and is an engaging storyteller. He made sure that kids and adults in our group got to interact with the birds at individual level of comfort. The sanctuary has many rescued birds and other animals and we got to learn their stories. Highly recommend!

Spent about 2 hours with Gerald's parents the past weekend - their son usually does 99% of the tours and I had no idea what to expect. I thought it was going to be a quick 30min tour but I was surprised by how thoughtful and compelling all the storytelling was, and how compassionate Gerald's parents were. I really loved learning about and hearing all the quirks each bird had. Bonus - since the sanctuary is a 501c charity, the tickets are tax deductible. Just come, it's a great break from the beach and hiking activities to meet the sweetest and funniest birds ever.
