What you'll do

Bali Wildlife Rescue Centre is one of only seven such centers in whole of Indonesia. We care for, rehabilitate and release native endangered wildlife, most of which are the victims of illegal trading and poaching.

Through this experience, you will help our rescued wildlife. We'll start with a short tour around the facility so you can meet the animals. Then you'll help by cleaning the animal enclosures, preparing food for the animals, and making enrichment for the animals.

For those who have special skills such as wildlife veterinarian or zookeeper, you can work more closely with our vet to examine the animal health, train staff to do rehabilitation, or help us to promote our work and raise funds to improve our operation.

We welcome you to our rescue centre and thank you for your help!

Where you'll be

Bali Wildlife Rescue Centre is one of only seven such centers in whole of Indonesia. We care for, rehabilitate and release native endangered wildlife, most of which are the victims of illegal trading and poaching.

Across Indonesia, wildlife is being displaced by deforestation, forcing animals out of their natural habitat. Unfortunately, animals and birds become the target of poachers and traffickers.

There are a few pros and cons about this experience. Regarding the experience itself: it was horribly hard to find the location. I did not know whom to contact and Google maps is just horrible in this area. We found it simply by accident after having already given up on ever finding it. The experience itself was, well, in some way exactly what it says. You go there to volunteer for a day - which is fabulous, but, considering that we paid them, it felt wrong. I was told to clean the driveway with a broom, which has nothing to do with helping animals - if I were a volunteer, I would have had no problem with that. But I paid to be there, so I would have expected a little more animal contact or at least some information about the animals. We left after 1.5 hours because it was simply too hot and uninteresting. The good part was: while driving our scooter there, we rescued a puppy off the streets and someone there said he had a friend who will take care of it. That made the whole thing a lot better.

Indeed a hands-on experience. You get to work hard for the animals. A good chance to learn about Indonesian wildlife and conservation, these issues are happening all over Southeast Asia including Thailand so I can relate a lot to what they are going through. I like that the staff are strict with quality control, they won’t let you get away with half-hearted scrubbing of the cage floor. They are hard working people and could use all the help we can offer. The Airbnb location is inaccurate. You need to look up FNPF / BWRC Tabanan on Google Map. Didn’t get to meet Bayu but Agus was very entertaining and friendly.

It was a uncommon and special experience to get really close to so many animals. It was rewarding to help clean their cages and feed them. This is something that I wouldn't be able to experience back home in Australia. They were flexible with our break time and tried their best to explain their work in English. I appreciate what they do with what little resources they have.
