What you'll do

We'll meet at Richmond's most popular shopping district - Carytown. We'll travel by Jeep through the historic sites from the days of the early settlers ( 1600s ), Revolutionary & Civil War, and turn-of-the-century downtown spots that changed the landscape of Richmond's neighborhoods and denizens, visit scenic observation site with amazing views of the city and enjoy a sweet treat at an iconic Donuts shoppe. We'll end with a 4 block walk down Carytown. Along the way you'll learn the history of our city, view beautiful 19th century architecture along with amazing art, wall murals and national landmarks. The riches of the city, though hundreds of years old are still here, they still speak, no one's changed the facade you can literally step back in time and sense what it was like to live here and work here...
hiking through high brush to discover the opening of the once famous underground railroad tunnel to the city! It's not just sticking your nose in a book, it's walking down to the James River as the settlers first did as they arrived to Richmond in 1462...We'll visit the 1st city park. We'll stand on the very land John Smith and the English settlers did that later would be the baseball field where the late great Babe Ruth once played! We'll have refreshments and snacks along the way! Join us!
Other things to note
Dress comfortably for the weather and especially good walking shoes... we'll do some walking but not too much!

I learned so much with Ivan. I highly recommend this tour if you really want to learn about Richmond’s history and get to know its neighborhoods. I expected Ivan’s wife to be in the tour as well but to my surprise she wasn’t and Ivan forgot to bring snacks as well so I am glad that I brought some cookies.

I booked this experience for my wife's and mine 28th anniversary trip. I surprised my wife with a trip away and made this tour part of her experience. She loved the tour and Ivan was a great host and began communicating with me two months in advance of the trip to ensure I was comfortable with booking and answered all of my questions. Ivan is knowledgeable and quick witted and assisted in taking pictures of us so my wife can have long lasting memories. Thank you Ivan for helping me make this weekend special for my wife!

Hey everyone! We took this tour and it was awesome. Ivan was our tour guide and he is very knowledgeable about the city and all of its history he is also very funny and had us laughing the whole time. My husband and I are both big history nerds so we were in heaven learning and seeing all of the historical places like Saint Johns church as well as going to Hollywood cemetery and finding two United States Presidents that are laid to rest there. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

It was so amazing!!! I would’ve paid more. Ivan really knew his history and was so passionate. I felt like I was in the 1800-1900s myself and just taking in on the history as if I was actually there. Beats just reading from a history book or going to some museum. To see and touch actual historic places was just phenomenal. 10/10 recommend. My husband said he could narrate movies or read books for audible and he would watch/listen to it.
