What you'll do

1. After gathering at Akabane Loco Station, we will guide you to our field by car (travel time less than 5 minutes). 2. When we get to the field, I will explain a little about our organic farming method and then harvest the seasonal vegetables. Our field is organic, so various seasonal vegetables are grown every season. Over 50 kinds of vegetables and herbs are grown annually, such as peas and onions in spring, tomatoes and eggplants in summer, sweet potatoes and leeks in autumn, and radishes and carrots in winter. 3. Feed the chickens with harvested vegetable scraps and weeds. On organic farms with chickens, weeds and earthworms are not wasted! Get eggs from the hen house and return the manure compost to the field. I hope you will understand the circulation of vegetables, weeds, insects, chickens, eggs, and chicken manure through human works. 4. After farming, take a vegetable and egg to drive to an old private house over 50 years old where we live (travel time less than 3 minutes). Cook and eat your favorite toasted sandwich using freshly picked vegetables and eggs! We can cook it in the garden when the weather is nice. Please make choices for your sandwich as your favorite vegetables, seasonings and cheese. Press the sandwich between iron casting plates and then grill. Please be careful not to burn it too much, but bake until it is crisp. 5. Enjoy the taste of your special sandwich and drinks (choose from coffee, tea, green tea, etc.). After the meal, I will send you to Akabane Loco Station.

Noriaki

Hello ! My name is Noriaki Mameno, I have been an organic farmer for 17 years on Atsumi Peninsula in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture. I would like to create a dynamic organic farm where chickens and other small animals such as insects and seasonal vegetables and herbs coexist. I hope this workshop will give you a beautiful taste of the organic vegetables that you have harvested, as well as the variety of lives circulated on the organic farm.

Where you'll be

Akabane Loco Station where we gather is a roadside station where you can get restaurants, souvenir shops you can buy local specialties, and tourist information. Facing the Pacific Ocean, there is a very beautiful beach, and many people who enjoy surfing and fishing, especially in the summer. It is about 5 minutes by car from Akabane Loco Station to my field. Many farmers in this area grow chrysanthemums in greenhouses and cabbage in the open-air. The night view of this peninsula seen from the hill is very famous for the light from the greenhouse that controls the flowering of chrysanthemums. It takes about 2 minutes by car from my field to my home. This Atsumi Peninsula is heavily affected by strong winds such as typhoons, so there are many old-fashioned villages where houses with tiled roofs that are strong against wind are densely built, and there are many houses along the coast because they made their lives as half-farming and half-fishing in the past . The house I live in is also an old house that has been built for over 50 years. My wife & I renovate the house little by little.
