What you'll do

I will coordinate the transportation to leave Santa Marta between 7.30 and 8 am (it depends on the place where you will be picked up). Our first stop, at 9.30 am, will be by Don Diego River, which was born in the Sierra Nevada and is named in honor of a Spanish conqueror who had a good relationship with the natives. We will walk for about 25 minutes seeing beautiful and peculiar vegetation (such as sleeping plants), unique animals and the ruins of a Tayrona settlement (it is almost like a Lost City, but smaller). At the end of this tour, at around 10.15 am, we will do the tubing. We will go down at a slow and relaxing pace along the river for two hours watching babillas, blue and black herons, birds of the area, howler monkeys and we will arrive at the place where the river meets the sea. If we are lucky, from there we will see the snowy peaks of the Sierra de Santa Marta.
We will feel the cold water from the river and the warmth of the salt water at the same time! Around 12.30 pm a ¨pataconada¨ awaits us and from there we will go to a luxury hotel in Palomino where we will have lunch at 1.30 pm. We will spend a beach afternoon in the Caribbean. We will return at 4.30 pm re-energized, that's for sure.

I'm Luis. Economist, I worked as a consultant for more than 20 years and I changed my work for my passion: tourism, sailing and enjoying nature by land and sea. Since arriving in Colombia with my family I have had the opportunity to explore the area in a different way and I have found people and places that cannot be missed.
This is how I created ¨Sailing Tayrona with Luis¨, which is the most visited experience in Santa Marta.
Now along with my co-host, Hannah Zea, I want you to visit magical places full of great contrasts and unparalleled beauty.
We are bilingual (Spanish and English) and love talking and telling local anecdotes.

Where you'll be

We will travel to the Don Diego River entering the town, from there we will go up to visit and discover the ruins of a Tayrona tribe that disappeared and whose descendants are the Arhuacos, Koguis, Wiwas and Kankuamos. We will go down the river and by road we will reach Palomino and there we will stay in one of the most beautiful hotels in the area that offers us a delicious meal (vegetarian option), hammocks, kiosk and a unique beach.

I had a fantastic time with Natalie who was my interpreter during the day. The places we visited were great and also gave you an insight into the culture. Tubing was so much fun and it ends with a beautiful view. The beach in the hotel in Palomino was breathtaking and I wish we could have stayed a little longer: ) totally recommend this experience!

Wow this was absolutely incredible... way beyond my expectations and I was blown away by each aspect of the tour... the short hike, tubing, the meal and the beach at the end. Really magical! (I also got to take a great nap in a hammock so that was a major added bonus!) But along with all this was Hannah's personality and friendliness as a tour guide. She was super kind and great to talk too throughout the day. A big thank you to Luiz, Hannah for the coordination of this tour and all the people along the way. Would do this again in a heartbeat and highly recommend others to check it out.
