What you'll do

Our meeting location is a roadside overlook with bathrooms, good cell reception, and great views. From there we will group up, make last minute restroom stops, and observe ‘Ō'paeka'a Falls in the distance. Once we have everyone, we will begin our journey deeper into the island’s verdant interior - distributing maps and GPS coordinates before caravanning 10 minutes inland to the secondary parking area where we will begin our hike (little to no cell reception there).

Our hike begins as a gentle climb up a well-maintained trail. Learn about the impressive trees and sample wild edibles that line the way. As we make our way higher (450 ft. elevation gain) views of several mountain ranges begin to emerge.

There is a large open area with expansive views in all directions at our turnaround point (2.5 miles RT). Back at the trailhead we will take a short stroll through a nearby stand of the widely popular, often photographed, "rainbow eucalyptus" trees (Eucalyptus deglupta). We will then have the option of taking a quick dip in a cool mountain stream, complete with obligatory rope swing and/or testing our balance on a slackline.

Aloha, I'm the founder of Kauaʻi Hiking Tours. I've been enjoying island life for the past 10 years, including time spent on Oʻahu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Island. In that time I've hiked every trail Kauai has to offer and gone on many "neighbor island" adventures! In total I've been guiding for nearly 20 years throughout much of the United States and internationally.

I co-host with Chris, Wes, and Jess who are also super passionate about Kauaʻi, canyoneering, and hiking. Kanako is available for Japanese and English speaking guests. We look forward to surprising you with some fresh local fruit and maybe even opening a coconut for you!

Where you'll be

Take in beautiful ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls then hike gorgeous Kuilau Ridge for possible views of majestic Mount Waiʻaleʻale - dubbed "the wettest place on earth" (with over 450" of annual rainfall some years). After our hike we will have the opportunity to view a tall grove of colorful rainbow Eucalyptus, take a dip in Keahua Stream, and perhaps visit a rare rudraksha tree forest/stone Ganesha statue that is part of a Hindu Monastery.

My husband, parents and I had a great time on our private tour with Jeremiah and his cousin Greg. We are not experienced hikers and this was the perfect level for us. The views are spectacular. Jeremiah pointed out the different plants and wildlife along the trail- we definitely enjoyed learning about what was around us rather than just hiking it ourselves. He provides local fresh fruit and great recommendations for additional trails and must sees on the island. Great half day trip from Princeville!

My dad and I joined Jeremiah on a hike on Thanksgiving afternoon. He was extremely communicative leading up to the hike and had gear, drinks, and fresh fruit for us when we arrived. During the hike, he taught us a lot about the history of the island, the different areas, plants, etc. It was clear that he was passionate about the outdoors as well as the island. We learned little tricks to hike safely in muddy weather, and had a fun and easy hike to the top where he then proceeded to help take pictures of my dad and I. We had a great time with Jeremiah and felt like the hike was one of the highlights of the trip. Would definitely recommend to someone who wants a guided hike and to learn more about the island.

Nice and rather easy hike. Polina, our guide, was really nice. She know a lot about the area and the plants we encountered. The view is beautiful all along the hike. I really enjoyed it.

Meghan, Jeremiah's colleague, customized our guided tour to meet our needs as my wife was pregnant at the time. She was extremely knowledgable about the local environment as well as the broader history of Kaua'i and its people. Snacks and drinks were provided. It was a prefect afternoon and we hope to do another tour together whenever we go back.

My mom and I went on this hike with Jess as our tour guide. We felt welcomed from the start and had so much fun learning about the natural flora of Hawaii. The views were also spectacular! Highly recommend!
