What you'll do

Join me on a walking tour of Strasbourg! We’ll talk about its origins as a Roman camp, the moments of glory as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, its millenary cathedral, Strasbourg and the events of the French Revolution and how the Marseillaise was written down in this city (yeah, weird, right?) and we will visit the canals of the Petite France. But I want to offer you something else (and that no one else will), as a lover of History, I’m passionate concerning stories of WW2, so we will have a conversation regarding Strasbourg during its darker years, from its bombing in 1870 by the Prussian troops, the return into France after the First World War and the life of the town throughout the Second World War. We will talk about the Nazi occupation of Strasbourg, from the life experiences of Anne-Marie, my girlfriend's grandmother, (she is still alive and happy that I'm sharing her life with you!) and share with you some of her family photos and letters!
We will walk by places that saw their original names changed, like the old Adolf Hitler Platz, the Karl Roos Platz, we will walk outside the former Kommandantur and all that while I tell you about the American bombardments that the city suffered allowing the entrance of the allied forces.
By the way! I'm not a fan of huge groups (Quality over quantity) and if you have a dog: this experience is dog friendly

I come from Chile, a former law student, former tourist guide in Chile and backpacker who travelled from Ecuador to the Strait of Magellan (passing multiple times through Patagonia) that decided to cross 13,000 km to improve his language skills at the University of Strasbourg.

Passionate about history and World War II, I arrived to Strasbourg, falling in love with it and now hoping to share my deep affection for Strasbourg with you.

We scheduled a private tour with Vladimir. He is fluent in multiple languages and we had no problem speaking our native English. He had a wealth of knowledge of the area and was able to explain a detailed history of Strasbourg during our walking tour. He spent extra time with our family, which was much appreciated. Vladimir also shared personal experiences and pictures from people close to him who actually lived in the city during WWII. He also gave us recommendations for good restaurants and food in the city as well as other places to visit while we were in the area. It was such a great experience. I would highly recommend this experience.

I was lucky enough to wind up with a private tour as the weather was probably not ideal, but regardless Vladimir made sure to create an incredible experience! He truly showed me the whole of Strasbourg and I saw parts I never would have known to find myself. I learned so much because of his passion and enthusiasm. I would highly recommend his tour!

Vladimir has a passion for the city’s history that translates into a deep knowledge about the last two thousand years of the region. That adds to a great skill for story telling that really immerses you into where you are, and all the elements of such rich history. He blends that with his own “close to family” history, and you end up enjoying every minute of great learning and reflection. Everybody should take this tour when visiting Strasburg. He can also give great tips about places to visit in the region, and great restaurants to enjoy ausacian food.

The history walk with Vladimir was really interesting! He did a great job connecting historical events with the location in which we were standing at a given moment. This made the information less chronological, but emphasized how layered and complex the history of Strasbourg/Alsace is. His stories about Anne added a personal touch to the tour, and we really enjoyed them.

If you love history I totally recommend Vladimir to you! He shows you the most important historical parts of the city and tells you in an interesting way the story of it. It is great that he also engages the personal stories of people who lived through those ages. Together with this beautiful city, it was a great experience.
