What you'll do

Join me on a walking tour of Strasbourg! We’ll talk about its origins as a Roman camp, the moments of glory as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, its millenary cathedral, Strasbourg and the events of the French Revolution and how the Marseillaise was written down in this city (yeah, weird, right?) and we will visit the canals of the Petite France. But I want to offer you something else (and that no one else will), as a lover of History, I’m passionate concerning stories of WW2, so we will have a conversation regarding Strasbourg during its darker years, from its bombing in 1870 by the Prussian troops, the return into France after the First World War and the life of the town throughout the Second World War. We will talk about the Nazi occupation of Strasbourg, from the life experiences of Anne-Marie, my girlfriend's grandmother, (she is still alive and happy that I'm sharing her life with you!) and share with you some of her family photos and letters!
We will walk by places that saw their original names changed, like the old Adolf Hitler Platz, the Karl Roos Platz, we will walk outside the former Kommandantur and all that while I tell you about the American bombardments that the city suffered allowing the entrance of the allied forces.
By the way! This experience is dog friendly and feel free to ask if the time proposed for a tour doesn't fit your schedule

I come from Chile, a former law student, former tourist guide in Chile and backpacker who travelled from Ecuador to the Strait of Magellan (passing multiple times through Patagonia) that decided to cross 13,000 km to improve his language skills. In this moment Im finishing my studies in the University of Strasbourg to become an Official Tourist Guide in France.

Passionate about history and World War II, I arrived to Strasbourg, falling in love with it and now hoping to share that love for Strasbourg with you.

Due to the pandemic, we ended up getting a private tour and, private tour or not, it was worth every Euro (and Glühwein of it). Vladimir clearly is very passionate about the history and development of Straßbourg as a whole and the Elsaß as a region. His tour weaves well researched historical facts together with the personal narrative and story of the people living through it, which creates a great experience that makes it easy to put the historical context together with the individual destinies. From the Celtic settlements to the Napoleonic wars all the way to the liberation of Straßbourg at the end of world war 2, we got to know about everything. I absolutely can recommend this tour to anyone visiting Straßbourg.

This was by far the most captivating guided tour I've ever taken. Vladimir compressed his knowledge of 4000 years of the complex history of Alsace/Strasbourg into an an entertaining, interactive and at times emotional few hours' walk around the city. He shares some astounding and less known/seen photos and facts about the city that any history buff would appreciate. However what stands out in this tour (and what you won't find elsewhere, yet) is his personal recollection of stories and memorabilia belonging to WW2 survivor Anne-Marie, whose wartime life and hardships are absolute gem that, albeit painful, must be told and retold the the newer generations lest they forget. Owing to the current health situation I was incredibly fortunate to get a "private" tour of my favourite city that was completely deserted on a beautiful winter morning, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick start the New Year. A huge thank you Vladimir and I wish you the very best in all your endeavours. :) - Neelabh

Vladimir is such a warm personality and highly motivated guide. We truly enjoyed walking through the streets of Strasbourg and learning from all the stories of the city since its foundation to modern times. The visit of Petite France on the end was a great way to end the tour. Thanks again! Jelena and Stevan

We scheduled a private tour with Vladimir. He is fluent in multiple languages and we had no problem speaking our native English. He had a wealth of knowledge of the area and was able to explain a detailed history of Strasbourg during our walking tour. He spent extra time with our family, which was much appreciated. Vladimir also shared personal experiences and pictures from people close to him who actually lived in the city during WWII. He also gave us recommendations for good restaurants and food in the city as well as other places to visit while we were in the area. It was such a great experience. I would highly recommend this experience.
